Above Average Performance!!!

Hey I just had some kind of infection on my drive(the Ebola of computer viruses). Im working on an web bureu and one of our services are security, thous we are the target for lots of hackers and virus makers out there.
To make a long story short MY FAT got Kicked hard and the partition was lost, with my morrowind character on it I was like level 70 battle mage and was living it wild in balmora(roughing people up and so on ).

Well all gone now

So I installed morrowind again on win2k this time(98 last time, 2k security works good on our internweb. So hopefully no more viruses).
via drivers 4.40
detonator 30.82
memoryenabler 4-way
defragmented drives and 1.2 patch.

I have duron 750@950mhz 100mhz fsb
320mb 133mhz sdram
geforce4 mx440 oc'ed (yes yes no pixel shader ) clocked it like this
270mhz core@ 300mhz
400mhz mem@ 490mhz

resolution 10x7x32bits @85hz
distance @45%
AI @25%
shadows FULL(owned )

Ive locked my fps at refreshrate(vsync ON)
set the morrowind ini files setting maxfps to 85 and the thingy that makes
threadload yadayada to 1

I started the game and made me an wood Elf assasin(female)
Always wanted to play as an assasin since I realised the potentials

well now is when I got stunned. started it up with 85fps in boat 30fps in seydn nan ??? wt*

ran out to the west coast swamps and had 35-40fps
50-85fps indoors tawern, houses, lighthouse and so forth.

havent been in balmora yet cause I had to write this

No stuttering just fluid gameplay all over.

last time I didnt use 4.40 but 4.37 via drivers. detonators 28.32
and ran it on win98se. And I never had over 30fps any where! 15fps in seydn nan(dont remember the spelling )

And I jumped out to turn on aniostrophic level 8x and quincuix antialiasing
started it again. and decided if I dropped some fps but still had no stuttering I would play it with theese eyecandy on.

NO DROPS WHAT SO EVER!!!

LMAII and the Accuview KICK ASS!!!
so if u have an gf3 card and dont mind loosing the water effects get an mx440. if u have an gf2 and dont afford a gf3 ti200 or better yet and gf4 ti4200. Dont be affraid of getting the gf4mx440 or 460 cards over a gf3 or gf3 ti200 if u dont mind the pixel shader beeing missing. And u want an quick and cheap way to get morrowind look beautifull and smoothly running.

Im getting an gf4 ti4400 or 4600 when the cards drop in price....lots of the price...

But now im off to assasinate people and enjoy the scenery

peace out!

Sorry ? when did I say the mx440 was faster then the ti4200 ?
Read up on what I wrote.

And yes I can confirm what I said.
If u cant afford an gf3 ti500 or better yet an gf4 ti4200, DONT be affraid of getting crappy performance.

btw I got 27fps on the bridge closest to the stilt rider in Balmora.
average of 22fps when moving and so on. 17 as lowest at some points.

If u can get the gf3 ti200 at a same or lower prise then the gf4 mx440 then go with the ti200.

My card has 3.6ns memory and im running it at 330mhz core 550mhz mem
and some more tweaks as the 4-way enabler for the via chipset.

agp apparture 128mb instead of 64 and so on, and so on.

If u guys want a detailed tweak guide of my computer then just ask me.
But for now im not going to type it down, if theres no interest

without my tweaks I got 3000 points "less" in 3dmark2001SE so u have an idea of it all.

/peace out

Hey, I'd like one....I've got almost exactly the same setup (AMD Duron 900 386MB ram, Geforce 2 MX400), and what I'd like to know is a)what settings did you think improved your framerate the most?
b)Are you still playing with view distance 40% and Ai distance 30% or did you increase your view distance to max, if you do so, what framerates do you get on lowest?
c)Do you play with music on or off
d)How in the ** did you overclock your Duron to run at 950mhz? Did you solder the chip itself (removing some pins and re-connecting the bridge? Or dou you just use jumpersettings or Biostweaks for this?...
e) Are you running any other optimizer programs like Cachemanager or Powertweak? And the Morrowind FPS optimizer program, use it?

Well, if you even take the time to answer this questions I'd be very grateful to say the least bro.

Oh and one last question, do you think it's worth switching from winMe to 2000 /XP performance wise?

Thanks again..

Dont know where you live, but in Holland the ti4200 is around 160$ (64bm), which is only slightly more then the GF4mx. The radeon9000 is better in every way and costs around 120. The GF3ti200 is also better, and also cheaper (130).

Sorry, but the GF4mx really isnt worth the money. Either go for gf4ti4200, or for GF3ti200/Radeon9000. With the Radeon9000 you'll have ATI's anwser to gf4mx, although R9k has Pixel Shaders.

But still, good job on getting such performance out of it.

The problem my brother had when upgrading his computer was that he couldn't buy an GeForce 3 Ti200 or Ti500, nor could he buy a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 and Ti 4600 BECAUSE they are all AGP and he can't put in another AGP card, he needed a PCI card and the only available good performing and high quality one was the Geforce 4 MX.

He didn't buy it because it was cheaper, but because he couldn't install an AGP card in his computer without getting a totally new computer.

Well, if he has no AGP slots, then I doubt a GF4ti would be good, the pc would most likely never get the card running at 100%. So with 'older' systems the GF4mx is good, as long as you dont need pretty water. Maybe Radeon 9000 has PCI version?

I'm not sure. He was hell bent on getting an NVIDIA Geforce card however.

Quite sad, really, but understandable. Lots of people think geforce=cool, rest=sux. And when people also think GF4mx is a gf4, then nvidia's pr has succeeded again. While the gf4mx is certainly a fast pci card, its basically a glorified GF2. Its slower as the Radeon8500/9000/9700, and slower as the GF3ti/GF4ti or even the Matrox Parhelia (not really good card for games).

Do some searches and look at some benchies. Its no fun to see a Gf4ti4200 will run any game MUCH better, with MUCH better graohics, while only costing 25$ more. People will often not know the difference and go for the cheapest, truly believing they got a GF4.

yeah, nvidia is quite shrewd in their advertising. but i don't blame them....the g/c category is really hot...it's either to eat or be eaten

that's why it's good for the consumers who are in the know.
