I believe I read here that the coins represent a form of currency that was in place before the barrier was erected. Therefore, the coins have no value at the present time, as ore is now the most valued item to posess..

The point of all those coins might be to make you think about why the ore barons are collecting so much outside currancy. It maybe another idea that wasn't fully developed before the game was released?

Huh really?
I can take a level 35 guy and start him from scratch in a brand new game????

btw you can find about 9000 coins in Gomez' tower, imagine my delight when the game was finished with me hauling around all this useless coin through 85% of the game
(Me thinking I could BUY my way out of the barrier with some real cash at some point in the game...)

too bad only in the late game you can find that much of coins. Coins are acturally 3rd best, better than other stuff.
You only get half price of your other stuff, only coins, arrow, and Ore remain at "$1"

Ore is the best
Arrow is 2nd becasue you can use in combat
Coin the 3rd

I thought coins had exactly 0 value. I'm pretty sure that merchants won't give you anything for them.
