Would be so cool for Gothic II

Why not have a full scale battle. Wouldn't it
have been cool to have the orcs sige the
old camp? Battering rams, catapults, boiling
oil, the city burning, arrows flying
everywhere. Depending on how the battle went,
the outcome of the game could change. The
guards attack in front of the camp. When it
doesn't go so well, they fall back behind the
outer walls. When the outer walls are
breached, they fall back into the castle. The
fire mages casting spells from the tower. Orc
shamen knocking down dozens of soldiers at a
time. Quests would change if certain
important people perished. That would be so
cool!

One problem: My computer would run very very very slowly if all of that was going on at once.

Right, lack of computing power would be a serious problem.

I am waiting for such game all my life, but I'll need at least 512 RAM to enjoy the battle...

It's a great idea for sure, but terribly impractical.

In Gothic 2 the Orcs are going to besiege some town. But I don't think its going to be like the type of battle mentioned in this post. Maybe just and orc camp that is surrouning the town the something.(I was speculating there,I just know that orcs are going to besiege a town.)

I hate war games, Unless it's a WW2 flight sim that doesn't involve bombing missions.

Plus--you'd be a little fish again, just another soldier in this epic battle, where's the fun?

I agree. You're the hero. You could take the entire army yourself. Why divert focus from that with a massive crash inducing mega battle?

(Though I managed to get some pretty big battles going myself with inserts into the middle of old camp and they ran fine)

In a pen and paper game, a siege or fight like that is typically background scenery. The characters, if they participate, sneak around or plow through the army to get to the generals... then defeat the general and cause the monstrous hoarde to break apart with no leadership. It works in pen and paper, it works in novels, it works in CRPGS.

Though if you like epic battles with hundreds of participants, maybe try Dark Age of Camelot?
