Blizzard has announced at the official 'World of Warcraft' <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/" target="_blank">website</a> that over 300 accounts have been closed due to illegal bot-usage (automation of characters via third party software). This is the second round of bannings after the speed hack bans last week (<a href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10077&newsid=34476">story</a>).

It's not so much as what they gain as to what it does to other players as you rapidly find that players can't enjoy or even know how to play the game without first having a fully loaded compliment of buffs.
Accelerated levelling too is a problem as what happends to the game when all the players reach the current cap and are ahead of the development curve isn't good - i.e. they all leave.
