Exactly 2 years ago we started having world cup soccer competition (MichaelC was the winner), which by the way lead to creation of sports fan user-group. It still runs, although from the original 10 who signed up maybe 4 of us are still posting there. We are betting on soccer, football, hockey, basketball (right now there is ongoing F1 competition), of course there are some rules to follow, but generally everybody is there to have fun.
The reason I’m posting here is I’m sure there are more people who would like to join in this friendly guessing game. Of course the rules of the forums still apply here. Anyway, the first game start on Saturday June 12 at 17:00 (GMT) and I like to know how many of us are willing to give a shot. In case there is very little interest the idea might get abandon, but since there is lots of people here from Europe this is unlikely.
Val was kind to offer this thread as sticky one for our convenience, so in the name of all future participants I want to thank her for that.
Soon there will be posting regarding the rules and points collection.

For clarification purposes: the competition will be held in this post, no need to register for any user-groups, however you need to be a member of RPG.com forums to post. As I said it above, the similar game was running before, for any new contenders or older “peasants” who wants to reminisce you can visit HERE
On the side note, I bet Lintra and DzD who were playing last time are still interested, same as newcomers such as Eric and Bartacus will also participate, Xerox our Sports user group moderator if he has time is unlikely to skip this tournament. You can also post separate bet for your family member(s).
MichaelC will be our MiC (Man in Charge) and I will be his sidekick. 
Expect the rules to be posted by Thursday.

Here are the concept of the game we want play.
MIC (Men in charge): Seth. Michael C
Players: Everybody who wants to participate, ONLY criteria is registered member of RPGDot.com forum.
Game art: Betting contest on European championship 2004 "soccer" in Portugal starting 12th June 2004.
Where: Here in this thread.
Winner price: The right to brag and display about beeing the "Champion" in the betting contest until the next major betting event.
The betting rules:
1. The contest will finish with the finals of EC2004
2. Approx. Each second day we will put up the relevant games for betting and all players have until match start to put in their bets! We will continously set up new matches, and also continously count the scores for each player from the previous bets!
3. Any bet made after the starting time of a match will not count.
4. Each player score 3 points, if he/she hits the correct result, and only 1 point if he/she hits the right winner/draw!
4A. In the quarter/semi/final - finals there will be some smaller additions to the scores because of the possibility for extended play and penalty shooting.
(We will get to that later).
4B. Before start of the first quarter finals everybody has a possibility to predict the 4 semi finalists and the 2 finalists and of course the winner for extra points
Right semi-finalist gives 2 points per team
Right finalists gives 3 points per team.
Right winner gives an additional 7 points.
5. It's allowed for players to bet on the same result!
6. Should a player miss a round, he will get the same amount of points as the lowest score for the actual round.
7. New players can enter the competiton any time, and will be given the same points, as the lowest scoring player.
8. Any player that have made a bet in the competiton, will remain in the competiton, no matter how many bets he misses, unless he specific write to us that he leaves the competiton
9. The betting competition will start saturday 12th june 2004. Good luck to you all.
How to bet:
Ex: If we set up the games:
1. Potugal - Greece
2. Spain - Russia
You simply make a post here with your bets for the predicted end results like this:
1. Potugal - Greece 2-1
2. Spain - Russia 1-1
And that's it. Seth and I will keep track on the points all the way
For the special finalists bet, Ex: post like this:
Winner: Denmark
Finals: Denmark, France
SemiFinals: Denmark, France, Germany, England
In a day or two we will set up the first couple of games and the betting game is about to begin.

Well, here comes the first round of matches all played between 12 june - 15 june.
NOTE: In the initial games we play with a "Joker" feature, meaning you can put ONE and only one "joker" beside one of your bets for double points possibility.
Set the Joker beside the bet you most belief on. Every point received from that bet will then be doubled.
First game starts 17.00 GMT 12 June 2004

Let's say before 24 June 12.00 o'clock GMT, as the first Quarter final starts in the evening the same day. We only bet on Semi/final/Winner. We want to give possible new commers a change to participate as well.

I love this....
one question, shouldn't we PM the bets to someone so we can't copy each other? I know it's kind of lame to do so but it's possible for example if one person has the lead he always copies the second person etc... |

Since there is no real price for winning, except bragging rights there is no reason to play “strategically”, remember this is for FUN only
