I think its "no go" with the visor,
I tried this with the "dementor" robe (sleepers cloak) which also has a visor.
By using this visor mode the game writers then need not have a face or
faceani associated with the character, lip movement for speech or eyes that
blink etc' - - it's hollow (empty) inside.
It would have been nice to see a male/female face under the cloak!

there is no face anim with the dementor robe. that could be a problem. but with the paladin armor there is. im trying to get a anim file open so i can maybe move the visor down by the face.
what did you use to edit the dementor robe?

Hey, great texturing! Patrax, u obviously know what ur doin so I was wondering weather u could write a lil walkthrough on texturing? I'm not what ud call a good modder but with a walkthrough i'm sure I could get by. Thx for modding G2 whatever ur answer is and PLEASE KEEP MODDING! Gothic 2 needs english mods..especially with the long and uncertain wait for the addon! Also, hi to every1 on the boards iv been reading em for a while but just havn't felt compelled to post but this texturing is just soo good! |

I tried to keep it small
And I had to figure this out by myself
To make your textures for the game, you need these tools: Goman (top of page) and GothicVDFS 2.5(bottom of page) here
http://wiki.devmode.de/Diverses/n%FCtzliche+Dateien
Ok. Now lets get started.
First find out what you want to retexture. Im going to use the olds nights armor for an example.
-Start your GothicVDFS Program.
-In “filename” look for the file Anim.vdf. It’s in your gothic data directory.
-On the bottom left you will see some file. Double click on _COMPILED. (It’s on the bottom.)
-On the top make sure your Root Path is your desktop.
-Now on the right you will see a lot of files pop up. Find the anim that goes with the texture you want to edit. Ex: ARMOR_PAL_SKELETON.MDM
-Click on it and hit the Extract Selected on the bottom. (This will make a file called _work on your desktop. We will be using that in a bit.
-Now in filename open the file called Textures.vdf.
-Here you have to look for the texture your going to be editing. Ex: NW_MISC_PALSTATUE_ARMOR_01-C.TEX and NW_MISC_PALSTATUE_HELM_01-C.TEX
-Select them both and hit Extract selected.
-You can close the GothicVDFS Program for now.
-Now open GoMan. I think you have to go into program file because it does not make a shortcut to Desktop.
-Its in German but don’t worry about that.
-Hit Datei and then Offnen. The files you want are in the _Work file on the desktop.
_WORK\DATA\TEXTURES\_COMPILED
-Open the first one. There in TEX format so you will have to select that in the Files of type: thing in the open window.
-Now that you have your first texture open, I want you to hit Datei and export.
-In this window I want you to change the save as type: to JPEG. Now hit Exportieren.
- Do that same for the other texture. If there is one for whatever you editing.
-Now you can do what ever you want to the texture. I like to use Photoshop. But some people will have to use paint I suppose.
-Now that have have edited the texture/s we wanted. You have to open GoMan. Hit Datei then Offnen and open your JPG textures.
-Go to Datei and the Export. This time Export the JPGs as TEX files.
-Now copy and Past them in to _WORK\DATA\TEXTURES\_COMPILED. And replace the ones in there.
-Open GothicVDFS.
-On the top click on (Builder)
-Just above File (mask) to search for, I want you to hit the button with … on it.
-Now go in to your _work folder and extract all the files from it. (You will have to hit the + button for each one, they will all show up in a list underneath.
-Make you Root path your desktop.
-In filename save it to desktop. (Doesn’t matter what you name it.
-Now on the bottom hit Build Volume.
-Now your files on the desktop.
-On your file change the .mod to .vdf
-Put you file in to you gothic2 data directory.
There you go. If you did every thing right, it should now be in the game.
Have Fun.
For editing the face.
Head anim : HUM_HEAD_PONY.MMB
Head Texure: HUM_HEAD_V18_C0-C.TEX
If you want to use another shape for the head, just get the one you want and Copy it and rename it to (HUM_HEAD_PONY.MMB)
This tutorial was made because Eat_Lead asked for it.
Im such a nice guy
