Wish I had a 3000mhz processor |
|
This game is totally processor dependent. You can have a top of the line system and switch from 1600x1200 to 640x480 resolution and only get 3 more frames per second.
I installed the no-safedisk thingy. That increased my frames by 1.
Some people are talking about using anti-aliasing. Are they on crack? I don't care what your rig is you will take a significant loss of frames whether it be 4x, quincux, or 2x. And if I hear 1 more person recomending to install the latest drivers I'm going to puke.
My system: 1900+, Nforce, Gf3Ti200, 512mb PC2100, 80gb 7200 ATA 100. (Win XP home)
3D Mark is 6500, I could push it well above 7000 by overclocking but I have found it doesn't make a difference in games, maybe a half a frame per second better.
The only time frames are bad is when I am looking at a city with NPC's like from the prisoner boat, it is about 13 fps. If I go into the city running around with the NPC's then I get about 18-20 fps. Everywhere else is fine.
I have tried adjusting all the sliders. I was hoping reducing the shadows would give a significant performance increase (like it does in Ghost Recon) but it doesn't, maybe a couple frames at best.
The only slider that will make a difference is the visibilty. You can turn it down as much as you want to get whatever frames you want. However turning this slider over half way down to get 25+ frames in a city is not worth making the game look like "The Uber Fog of Morrowind" For me, the maximum visibility isn't enough and I refuse to turn it down. The game looks beautiful, like when you see that water shimmering in the distance through the trees. |

Believe me dude, with your rig you should EASILY get good fps. When was the last time you defragged it? is your OS clean? If you didnt really cleaned your OS regularly, then I Suggest completely reinstall your OS from scratch, reinstall all drivers, close all background progs, defrag your drive, use the nod-cd crack, and try again. |

Please read the mosts in "WANT TO PLAY MORROWIND, then DOWNLOAD THIS FILE NOW!!!"
I think there should be some help there.
I am telling you my system runs great with these settings and the image is great. My processor is HALF the speed of yours.
Best of Luck! |

Im not really complaining about the frames. They are bad around cities (anything less than 20 fps I consider "bad" Some people with 3D Mark of close to 10,000 are saying they get worse. If I went out and bought a GF4Ti4600 I seriously doubt I would get any more than a few more fps. Sure I could use a defrag and If that helps I'll surely add to this thread.
Some guy showed pictures of the game where you could tell the difference between aniso and biliear/trilinear. This game runs on direct 3D. How was he able to get one or the other defined? Isn't that an Open GL setting? I went into my setting Gf3Ti200 settings at the desktop and told it to run anisotrophic but nothing changed in the game, the frames nor the view. This is not an option in the game settings. Did he know what he was talking about? I wish I could know if it was using anisotrphic because I would surely change it to trilinear filtering. Anisotrophic is another fps hog. I have tried it in IL2 Sturmovic. |

HimalayanJake, I have read your post. I don't think many of your tips apply to my system, AA is a nono, and the no-safedisk patch gave me a 1 fps boost. You say you notice the frame rate counter says 9fps in crowds, but to you everything is smooth. If you think 9fps is smooth then more power to you. For me, 8fps is officially a slide show. |

As far as I can see, the fps counter is somewhat buggy. I have seen it play VERY smootly, where the counter only gave 9 fps. Ignore that counter, look at what YOU see.
And still try my tips:), your pc is NOT bad at all. |

I defragged. There may have been a 1 to 2 fps increase. |

Hmm, odd. What is your sound card? Have you tried disableing 3d sound? Seems like something is holding back the rest of your pc here. |

No sound card here, I use the integrated Nforce APU which is as good as or better than any sound card. I can turn sound off or disable it and it makes zero difference in fps performance. Works fine in IL2-Sturmovic and Ghost Recon, and turning it off there again yeilds no fps advantage.
(1280x960)
Approaching town is about 14-16 fps
In town with characters is about 19-24fps
It all depends on which way you are facing....the buildings are killing the frames. If I look down at the ground or up at the sky then sure my fps goes through the roof.
Anyway I'm not complaining I'm just saying this game could use alot faster processor than what is available today. |

Hmm, the system specs specifically call for a direct X 8.1 capable sound card with the approbpriate drivers. Are you sure your Nforce APU (I dont know that abbreviation, but assume its an onboard sound chip) fulfills those requirements? Though if turning sound off (did you try from the ini file?) doesnt change anything thats most likely not it...
Well, hope you can enjoy the game anyway... |
