How come when I fight like lurkers or skelitons....so far that ive noticed...about 90% of the time I do no damage. *Note* I'm level 11 and use an orcs axe type thing.
Does it have to do with my dex?

You're just not strong enough yet. Wait and get more training and strength, then you'll be killing lurkers by the score.

Just so you'll know, skeletons are very tough and will take a few hits to kill no matter how strong you get.

And no, dexterity has nothing to do with melee weapons in Gothic. NOTHING AT ALL.

Aye..tis not dexterity, but strength, lad, that makes melee weapons effective..

Are you trained in the weapon?? A trained or master of 1h weapons will have an easier time with those beasts than someone unskilled..

A good trick: knock down the mercenaries's chief in New Camp (I don't remember his name). His weapon (a great axe with... +104 or 105 ) is simply the second best weapon in the game.

Level 11 is just in the average... so it's normal.

I prefer Scar's Sword, if you have not yet mastered 2-handed combat. He is found near Gomez.

Well, I'm level 12 now and I have decided to go to the orc cave...orc scouts are easy...but I die in three hits by the orc champions or whatever they are and I do no damage to him...I hit him 12 times. Oh well.

So the more my strength the more damage???

Yes. Your skill in the weapon type dictates how often you hit (and the speed of your attack). Your strength allows for more damaging weapons (and adds to the damage). I suspect that level also increases damage - but am not sure of this - has anybody verified this?

I have level 2 1h mastery and level 1 2h mastery..I am curently using a 2h....which is better, and is more strength better than the 2h level 2?

No, you should always prioritize training over strength or dexterity. Training makes you quicker and more fluid in your attacks. There's plenty of time to add strength later.

I disagree. You need the first level - that is true, but then I would focus on strength. If you don't have adequate strength (to use heavier damage weapons) there are some creatures you cannot harm - no matter how good your form is . Then after you have strength up - go for the level two in your weapon(s).

I think I will add strength...since I just found an axe that does more damage than my current weapon, and it requires more strengh sooo... but I am in the orc cave..can I leave then come back without that one *sect* guy leaving?

oh so many questions

rwemember, half of the time skeletons will jump backwards as thier block move, and when they do you actually miss, but the game makes it sound as if you hit them. Try waiting for the skeletons to be in mid attack. Trus me on this, the same shit happens with shadowbeasts and lurkers

But +105 (Lee's axe) is better than +85, no?

True yes, however Scar's Sword is 1-handed, thus faster, and you don't require the 2-handed training to be effective. 105 damage is better, but for the mage and ranger type the required points to master 2-handers is usually best spent elsewhere...
Also, what I said was my opinion.

Best thing to do is just buy the most powerful weapon avaliable at the moment and then make sure your strength is about 10-20 above the requirements for that weapon. I did this until 2 handed weapons were avaliable to buy, and at that time, I had maxed out my strength at 100.

I never once ran into an enemy I could not defeat if I followed the storyline of the game.

Some people will try and make you believe you have to expoit the game to get ahead, beating up a powerful person in the camp when in all truth you'd be slaughtered for such ignorance.

You can easily get through the game without any problems if you just use what is avaliable to you the legit way.
