|
*uses a res scroll on D2: LoD* Voodoo Extreme has a blurb and link to Blizzard's Battlenet to download an MP3 player that will blast out all of your favorite D2:LoD tunes. <blockquote><em>Blizzard's Battle.net posted an MP3 player that has all 23 original tracks from Diablo series. "Players can now listen to their favorite in-game music from the Diablo series with just a few mouse clicks. The Diablo 2 MP3 player features many unforgettable tracks from the game, including: Tristram, Toru, and Hell!"</em></blockquote> You can head over to <a href="http://www.battle.net" target="_blank">Battle.net</a> and pick it up. |

The first step in Blizzard's plan to rekindle interest in the Diablo series. That Diablo 3 announcement should be....what, a year away? |

No need to resurrect Diablo 2. It is still alive and kicking.
Diabloii.net is an extremely active website.
The Diablo 2 Battle net Ladders are still filled with people. Yes, there are hackers and mean PKers but people still manage to have fun, cooperate and succeed.
Why is a 6 year old game still alive?
Gameplay.
It is one of the few games in existence that is easy to get into but very difficult to master. I have to laugh when I read about Diablo-clones and Diabloesque games. They do not exist. They may look similar on the surface. It is hard to describe but if you play Dungeon Siege, for example, the gameplay and strategy is always the same whether you are level 1 or 100. Click and kill before being killed using ever increasingly powerful items and spells.
Woah, wait a minute. That is exactly what Diablo's gameplay is you say?
Well yes and no.
In the Diablo clones, you can't mess up a character. You just keep killing things and get stronger. This is what RPGers hate about the hack and slash RPGs. They are too simplistic. Make a character in Diablo 2, click-and-kill stuff, randomly allocate skill points and see how far you get. Better yet, try it in Hardcore mode (Where you can only die once and your character is gone forever.)
I am as old and jaded as the next guy but when games like Fable, Dungeon Lords and Dungeon Siege 2 fail to deliver, I find myself trying to stay alive in Hardcore mode on Battle.net. |

You're right when it comes to the Diablo comparisons. It must be flattering to the Blizzard folks, past and present, that games continue to be compared to the Diablo series (like Space Hack recently). It's a pretty unbeatable game. I would tell game devs, if they ever asked me LOL, to stop with the comparisons. None of them measure up and in truth most of them are nowhere near Diablo beyond the most basic of comparisons.
I love Diablo 2...I'm still working on getting all 9 keys before I round up a bunch of people for an all day uber-monster fest. I have 7 so far. |

Sure, but is it as alive as it used to be?
Personally, I was a really great Diablo 2 player, but I moved on, It's already starting to bore me, even with the mods!
Now, if they would develop Diablo 3.... I would definitly Faint _________________ "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" -Edmund Burke. Mentioned in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. |
