I have so many great memories about this game! Complex but player-friendly. I remember falling off my chair when the Guardian first talked to me when I left Trinsic... =)

It still is a great RPG experience, despite the aged graphics and the lack of comfort in the interface and/or journal!

Man, I bought (well, my parent's did ) my FIRST 386 to play this game! It was great, and it only cost me around $3,000 to play! HA!

Ha! I remember buying the speech pack, and I too nearly soiled myself when the guardian talked to me: <br>"You are going the wrong way Avatar!" <br> <br>Great game, I played it far too much to be healthy. <br> <br>Sepiche

Ultima 4 through 7 (especially 4 and 7) were the greatest RPGs ever made. Comparing these games to current games is like comparing Star Wars to some film a college kid made in his basement. No one makes games like this anymore because its too cost-prohibitive. Creating games with lots of plot, dialog, intrigue, and realistic npcs just takes too long. No one can afford it.

Great Games. I have many good memories. The sad part is until today, only Gothic has only try to achieve the way npcs behavior in the game.

To Sepiche: I think you mix up the Speech pack with Ultima 8. There never was a speech pack for Ultima 7...

ULTIMA VII is the first computer game I ever played and it has spoiled me rotten! I cannot get immersed in the static, rice-paper thin "worlds" of any recent CRPGs, with the exception of ANACHRONOX. It has seemingly taken 9 years for someone to finally bottle a little lightning. <br> <br>When the Guardian's red face showed up and the gravely voice boomed: "AVAVTAR!!!", I nearly fell out of my chair! My ex-girlfriend still intones that single word whenever she so much as hears the mention of ULTIMA. <br> <br>The Guardian's laugh in the blacksmith's house had the little hairs on the back on my nape all raised. And his maniac laughter when I flew over Avatar Isle caused me to turn all the lights on in the house. <br> <br>It is very telling that the ONLY voice in ULTIMA VII is the Guardian's. The extro movie features but one character: our villain. There are sounds aplenty and music throughout ULTIMA VII, but the voice-from-beyond-the-grave was never again done as well, even in Lord British' own ASCENSION. <br> <br>Viva Exult! <br> <br>Regards, <br>SirVincealot

The moment that caught mem ost is the extro from Serpent Isle, where the Guardian's hand looks so great and simply takes our Avatar to drop him over Pagan.

The Best out there...

Both Ultima 7's were very good indeed. I am proud of having my Ultima Collection plus both Underworld games and World of Ultima games ( UW1 and 2 ; Savage Empire and Martian Dreams ) I still play them every now and then to have some fun provided I have my old laptop with myself.

Most people generally hate reading all the dialogues in games if there are too much of them, but I always like games that have good storyline. Plus the party system was very good ( and their pathfinding ) and the party members also contributed to the game. Of course the best Ultimas for me were: U7s ( they are equally good ) U8 and Savage Empire/U6.
