I just can't seem to get the hang of when to parry |
|
Combat in Gothic is neat, but it's a real pain in the butt.
I've been sticking to using bows and spells in combat because they require only one button to master. The kids these days with their nintendos, they can do these complicated three-and-four-button combinations, but not me. Back in MY day we played PONG, and we liked it!
Ahem.
I'm just posting to complain about this whole parry thing -- it seems like a good idea in theory, but I can never figure out exactly when to do it. I either wind up parrying too soon or too late, and the next thing you know the skeleton or orc elite has hacked me to pieces in two hits. How the heck do you guys figure this out? Do you just get a feel for it?
I've never felt like an old man playing computer games before, but now I feel like I should just go find a tar pit somewhere and throw myself into it. |

There is no recipe for doing a perfect parry.Just try to fight as much as possible.Just don't go fighting something that kills you in two strokes. _________________ WORK ORC |

Parry like you attack. You have to try to anticipate when the attacker is getting ready to thump you or not. It's a pain in the behind sometimes. But watch for the raised arm etc. Sometimes I just parry automatically between attacks, before the attacker has a chance to interrupt you. I hope Jaz or Gorath doesn't think this is a spoiler.
BTW you're not the only one here who played PONG when it first came out. _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.

Usually orcs will run at you and do a running swing. When it brings its arm down parry and then do a couple side to side strokes. Rinse and repeat. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

u need to become one with AI learn all the tactics every enemy makes like lets say skeletion it can hit u sometimes 2 combo if he starting doing that use 2x block and after that fast hit him then backup then just wait till he comes and wants to hit u again and just block the hit and hit him again one thing is sure he dosent do the 2x combo in a row |

I don't bother with parry. I just windmill back and forth with 1-Handed and whatever monster can't get close to me...sometimes doesn't even touch me. _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

Yeah parry isnt practical at all.I think it was added just to give some moves in the already pure combat style of gothic games. _________________ I come from space. From outer space! |

Naw, it's good when you get it right. Keeps you from taking a lot of damage sometimes. _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.

It's a hit-or-miss thing.
Some battles I wouldn't be able to win without parrying, and some battles I need to just close my eyes, swing like hell, and hope the attacker is dead when I open 'em. |

Practice practice practice. You have to watch for the swing. Saved me from getting killed by orc elite more than once. _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.

That's true. It doesn't work for monsters. _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.
