Star Wars KotOR II: The Sith Lords (PC/Xbox) - Release Dates |
|
LucasArts has updated the <a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swkotor_sithlords/#50" target="_blank">Star Wars KotOR II: The Sith Lords</a> subsite with confirmed release dates. Despite original intentions to ship both the PC and Xbox versions simultaneously, only the Xbox version will make this December:<blockquote><em>LucasArts today confirmed a December 2004 release date for the Xbox version of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. As originally announced the PC platform and international versions will launch in February 2005.

<br>“We were hoping we could bring the Xbox platform into December but didn’t want to make the formal announcement until we knew an earlier ship date would not compromise the quality of The Sith Lords,” says Producer Mike Gallo. “We recently completed a very important milestone which confirmed we can confidently do this."</em></blockquote> |

Damnit, another disappointment
Quite a backlash on the Obsidian forums. Can't say I blame them, just wish I could believe it would accomplish something.
Interesting situation though, a much touted and reassuring simultaneous release waylaid by...what? Unforeseen difficulties in the PC version not present in the Xbox? Unforseen difficulties in the Xbox version, leading to more resources being directed at it, at the expense of the PC?
Regardless of the issues it's telling that the simultaneous release was abandoned to get the Xbox version out. No holding the more complete(?) version back so they could both be released at the same time.
Unsurprising I guess, given the current climate in the games industry re formats. I lent more credence to the projected dual-release though, what with Obsidian's involvement and all, should've known it was too good to be true. Still, perhaps they're not to blame. _________________ Chonky big tim-tam Australian so-so. |
