I'm a 'hardcore' RPGer! And [insert 'hardcore' RPGer rant here]
I rather liked Fallout Tactics as well. Of course, that's because I played it expecting a combat game, not an RPG. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

It was mainly my inclusiion of tactics & kohan that I would consider boarder line RPGs that prompted me to put on my flame resistant vest of power. _________________ The majority are not always right |

Heh, I notice that the top votegetters seem to be:
- Gothic
- Ultima Series
- Fallout Series
- Baldurs Gate Series
I was not surprised by the last three, but I thought Gothic was a relatively obscure game (being German first, then a rather unpolished English support afterward). Well, here's my list:
1) Fallout
2) Baldurs Gate II + ToB
3) Baldurs Gate I + ToSC
4) Gothic
5) Secret of Mana (very unique style and surprisingly engaging)
6) Final Fantasy Tactics (borderline RPG/strategy with awesome story, customizability)
7) Chrono Trigger
Soulbringer
9) FF III/USA
10) Wizardry 8
- Wind

PC Games
1.) Daggerfall - No I didn't finish it but I rarely ever finish a game.
2.) Ultima 7
3.) Betrayal at Krondor
4.) Fallout
5.) Soulbringer - Screw you guys who think this game sucks.
6.) The Summoning - GREAT game from what I played of it, my comp was too fast for it when I got it and I didn't get that far into it.
7.) Wizards and Warriors
8.) Morrowind - would be higher if it would've been more like Daggerfall
9.) Vampire the Masquerade - I didn't like the modern age part of it.
10.) Ulitma IX - Wasn't as good as it should have been
Console Games
1.) FF1 (NES) - By far the best FF ever.
2.) FF2 US (SNES) - not as good as the first but still ok
3.) Zelda 2 (NES) - I liked it.
4.) Zelda 3 (SNES) - GREAT game enough said.
5.) Zelda Ocarina of time (N64) - WOW
6.) FF3 US (SNES) - Begining of the end of this once great series.
7.) Suikoden (PS) - Only RPG I liked on the PS, didn't really play many though.
8.) Zelda 1 (NES)
9.) Phantasy Star III (GEN) - I LOVED how there were so many different possibilities in this game. GRRR This should be num 1 on this list, but I'm too lazy to move stuff, so push everything else down and put this num 1.
10.) Not really a RPG but the game is so great it deserves to be on ALL video game lists, Super Metroid
Online PC
1.) UO - I could still play this.
2.) EQ - I'd still play this if there was something to do while not in a group
3.) AC - only played the beta.
Only three I played
Pseudo-RPGs
1.) Deus Ex
2.) Dungeon Siege
3.) System Shock 2
4.) System Shock 1
Want to play but didn't for some reason (not out yet, didn't get around to it, etc) So ratings are estimated
PC
1.) Arx Fatalis - GRR I seriously want to buy the german version and make my neighbor (she's originally from Germany) come over and translate for me.
2.) EQ2 - Sounds like it will be awesome.
3.) Wizardry 8 - On my list of things to buy
4.) Siege of Avalon - only played the first chapter, never got around to buying it though.
5.) Divine Divinity - Looks sweet
6.) Gothic - Never got around to buying it
7.) Lionheart - look sweet
8.) Neverwinter Nights - I hope this is not like the Baldur's Gate type games, I didn't like any of them. Torment was the best but I still thought that sucked. *ducks the oncoming flames*
Console
1.) Metroid Prime
2.) Zelda (GC) I forget its name.
Whew this post is HUGE. |

Has anyone ever played Secret of mana 2/3 (Seiken Densetsu 3.
It was never translated for the US or Europe version.
But it is translated for a rom version, you can download it somewhere.
That one is a great game to if you liked Secret of Mana 1. _________________ The original RED poster (retired now)

I don't understand why people say Torment was so good.
For one it just didn't seem long enough, I mean I never got to cast half of my spells because I finished it before I got to a high enough level. Sure I could have made TNO a mage and had fewer party members but why have so many party slots if one can't use them all if they wan't to be able to cast cool spells. I don't know, I didn't like it, not saying you guys are weird for liking it, even though you are. J/K about that last part.
I liked Fallout, why would I insult it. |

Provis - The Planescape story line was very unusual, the NPCs have character, and the story was well told (different from unusual). How many games do you know of that have a puzzle where dying is the way to solve it?
I am enjoying the SP NWN campaign much more than BG1 - I'll see how it holds up at the end. I think the 3rd Ed rules set makes a big difference. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

You didn't like Torment!! Heresy!!
*grabs her pickfork and torch and waits for the mob to form...*
@Lintra: BG2 was a vast improvement over BG1. If you find it in a bargin bin, then I suggest you give it a try. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

@Lintra
That puzzle was what really blew my mind about that game.
If I understood the story right TNO lost his memory everytime he died right?
Hence all the tattoos and the WHOLE storyline of the game.
Then how would he know what to do when he came back to life in the puzzle?
Let me guess,
He only loses his memory when he dies a certain way.
To me it seemed that the designers forgot that part of the story when they made that puzzle.

Provis: PS:T is a, no - the game for book people. If one likes reading books and appreciates the actual writing besides the story, PS:T is what one should look out for. The game is meant to be played with an intelligent and wise Nameless One in my opinion, being able to play as a fighter or thief is nice and adds to the flavor of the gameplay experience, given that you can switch your class throughout the game, but those two classes are merely enhancers..
Personally, I found there was sometimes too much text to read, but in the end that's what makes PS:T so special and unique. You really have to suck up every little word with your mind, more often than not it's worth it.
As for the story, I think it does make sense. From what I remember, TNO doesn't seem to loose his memory whenever he dies, only in certain situations, or even randomly. If you've read his own diaries from former incarnations, you'll notice that he didn't always make it as far as you.. And you, as the player, just happen to play a very important part of his life, namely the probably last one where he can still remember something.

PS: My all time favorite game(s) is the Realms of Arkania trilogy (Blade of Destiny, Star Trail, Shadows over Riva). For me, the RoA games had the greatest, and most cozy atmosphere ever. I could simply dive into that fantasy universe, as it felt so believable and.. real... |

Arhu:
the producer of Planescape Torment and the Realms of Arkania is the famous Guido Henkel. I hope we will see a new rpg produced by Guido in future. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild= |
