Yep friend, same! btw are you playing planetside beta? its awesome! i am going to have 2 subscriptions (for now), 1 for planetside and 1 for SWG... Fun Stuff! After Middle Earth Online comes out, and Darkfall, Dragon Empires, HORIZONS, Trials of Ascension, and Warhammer Online -- after those come out i will prolly have subscriptions for each of them too... good thing i have extra cash, sheesh and good thing i have 24/7 to play, otherwise i would have to be even more selective! ANYway, thanks for the encouragement, i was just having a bad day yesterday. Tonight my parents are out of the house and i am going with a friend to get stinking drunk for the first time in like a year, so i am pretty excited about that too Everyone needs to get drunk every once in a while...

the more I think about it, the more it seems clear:
With all these MMOGs coming out, it seems to me its gonna pan out like this...
*Nobody (even if they could) is gonna have subscriptions for all of these games so...
*For the fortunate few, they will have the pleasure of picking out 3 mmogs, most likely 1 from each type of genre and will be loyal them
(IE - Yea I love D&L, Hori...boss coming in, hold that thought

i agree, not very many people are going to be crazy enough like me to subscribe to >3 multiple mmos. Most players choose one mmo and are dedicated to stick with it. Many other players move from one mmo to another, looking for whatever mmo game fits them best. As for me, i have enough time and money (although i am still poor on a fixed income) to play at maximum 8 (EIGHT!!!) mmos at once, since i dont need a job (thank goodness) and can be able to dedicate myself to numerous games at once. However, i am an extremely rare breed; hardly anyone is going to be doing what i will be doing, due to situational variables.

There are plenty of testers in the program that are more than happy with the way things are going (not perfectly, but definitely not negative). I think the reason you only hear negative things is that disappointed people are usually more likely to speak up than people who are happy with everything

Being one of those negative people, there is still plenty I like, or I simply wouldn't spend my time on it.. heh. I'm very much interested in seeing if they do lift the NDA at E3.. I just read that they were showing the game to a limited audience 'behind closed doors' .. which to me implys they may not be lifting the NDA so soon.

Ok that was me and now Im home, I'll elaborate.
the more I think about it, the more it seems clear:
With all these MMOGs coming out, it seems to me its gonna pan out like this...
*Nobody (even if they could) is gonna have subscriptions for all of these games so...
*For the fortunate few, they will have the pleasure of picking out 3 mmogs, most likely 1 from each type of genre and will be loyal to it. And basically, no one plays a game to be so-so or just ok, most will want to play to be the best they can possibly be. That will take a lot of dedication and time.

so right off the bat, nobody is going to sign up to 5 'Sword and Sorcerery' type MMOGs cause you'll either get completely off track of where you last left of with this char, or you'll come back to a world where all your friends are 5x your level.
My prediction is that survival of the fittest will prevail real fast and anything short of 'the fittest' will soon be a memory.
So there will be a king FPSMMOG, a king Space Based MMOG, and (of course) the king sword and sorcerery based MMOG...like this:
Action MMOG: PlanetSide
Space MMOG: SWG (Eve2, might get runner up)
S&S MMOG: Up in the air
As for Action, PlanetSide is a clear winner for the simple fact that no one else has even come close to this idea, and I think it will be a super smash. Its like playing an FPS but at the end of each session, all your accomplishments are saved and you're rewarded for your bravery with more skills, more hp, access to better weapons
As for Space, there might as well be no other competition in this category either, SWG is going to be another clear winner in this genre (despite the trash talking people who come on here and post trash but when pressed for some real info start with that "Oh, cant break the NDA" bullsh*t If you were really in the beta you wouldnt be saying anything at all, or you'd be spilling your guts. IMO, you're just full of sh*t. From the crafting, to the skills to the galaxy to the space expansion after launch...minus all that, its StarWars, nuff said. Yes, there is Eve Online (was in beta, it suqed) and Earth and Beyond (entertaining game, yes, but its like...SWG is now here...Earth and What?...)
So now we get to the real battleground: The Sword and Sorcery genre. This is where things get a lil silly. When you think of how far graphics have come in the past 5 years, there's almost no such thing as a bad looking game anymore, so graphics wont be a factor (although ShadowBane is trying to prove me wrong). So from there most games will try to appeal to certain subcrowds in the MMORPG genres (ie, PvPers, Community Builders, TreasureTrolls, etc)
But from what I can see, noone has gotten to total MMORPG formula as close to being right as UltimaOnline. Yep, the granddaddy.
* No levels
* Easy to max out character in a short period of time (casual gamers)
* Crafting is fun *and* functional within the game
* Can create your own look for your paperdoll (no clones)
way too much more to mention.
Anyway, I think whats going to decide the new MMORPG king will be the one who can figure out a better quest system (to avoid camping/griefing)
a better leveling system (to avoid camping/griefing)
and a better crafting system (AC1 had the right idea and then never followed up with it, AC2s totally sucked, again UO the king)
Uh basically, if SWG can play (NOT LOOK) like UO, I'll never need to play another MMORPG ever heh

on a different topic, GRRR i got stood up tonight BRRR so very uncool

umm are you aware that the designers and programmers from UO are making SWG now? i think we are in good hands, dude.

edit #2 -- This guy said he was going to get me drunk last night for the first time in like a year, and so i called him last night at 6:00 pm and he says, "Yeah, i'll pick you up at 7:00." And im like OK. So i wait for 7:00 in a good mood thinking i was going to have some fun tonight, and guess what, the guy didnt even show up. So i called his house at 8:00 to see what was up and his dad said he had left at about 7:00... so im like, "WTF!" So then i thought he might have been at his girlfriends house, so i drive over to her house and neither he or his girlfriend are there... GRR... so i go home all pissed off and depressed, and thats the last time i will even talk to that dude again. Such a prick...

and this was the SECOND TIME that this has happened with this dude... Some friend he is... I hope he goes to jail.

Bah..who needs friends to go drinking? The drunker I get, the more friends I made..

Rare things now, drunken nights...between the wife, school, work, and being 500 miles from my high school chums (doesn't real life SUCK?), I dont party much...and nothing like I used to.. I guess that may be a good thing!

Now that i think about it, i actually have way WAY more fun just being sober and playing these computer games and reading about them on the internet. I mean, i am a really happy guy playing these games all day, every day, to no end, woohoo !!! So actually, im glad i didnt get drunk last night... Besides, i have a commitment with God to keep, and shouldnt have planned for getting drunk anyway. Maybe God made his car break down just to give me a message (ITS HAPPENED BEFORE with the same dude, seriously, it did happen; we were going to do some hard drugs after my brother died, and God shut down his car so that it wouldnt happen). Besides, being drunk feels good for a couple hours (if youre in good company), but the rest of the time i feel like crap, and i might wake up with some girl that i dont even recognize in the morning! LOL. Or worse. One time when i was 19 i woke up in a farmland field in the middle of nowhere montana next to a pile of cow dung. That was bad. I mean, i was passed out 2 feet away from cow poop. lol.

Good thing my friends were just a little ways down the hill, else i wouldv had to walk home, lol.

ANYway, SWG is gonna rock! I think it might take awhile for adventurers to make any money though? of course i am guessing, but i imagine that crafters will be the ones with the money? but who knows?

EDIT -- i think i found the answer to my own question. Take a read at this from the official boards:

"On the second issue--crafters have no faucet from the game system. Only other players can buy their goods. Therefore, non-crafters (adventurers) need a faucet from the game system. Missions is one. We decided we needed another, and that is what the loot is for. It does not intersect the crafting economy except insofar as it serves as a way for adventurers to acquire credits. Adventurers do not have anywhere else to spend the money except on travel tickets, maintenance fees, and crafters. So this money will flow to crafters in the end. --Raph Koster, Creative Director [SWG]"

hmm, makes me reconsider crafting a little... but its nice that adventurers can get money too; i still wonder if crafters will make more though overall...

Yes, they most definitely will.

It's the crafters that make the houses, player run structures (factorys(serveral types), resource harvesters (serveral types), best guns, best armor, droids, clothing, etc etc.. and I'm guessing they will make vehicles when they come out. A combat player could dabble in say engineering to make some credits on the side, so there are options for those who want explore other skills and ways to make income.

The good thing is one crafter won't be able to do it all. Although you could easily be a master weapon and armorsmith, plus dabble in a few other skills.

Hmm I've said too much perhaps again, however at least its all positive stuff.
