Official email sent out on Dec 12th, 2002:

Everyone,

I'd like to announce that MDO Games, the same people who revived
Meridian 59 in Germany, will publish the German Language version of ATITD
as "Kemet: A Tale in the Desert." They're here visiting us in Pittsburgh
this week, and Uwe Oster, MDO Games' president will join us for a special
IRC chat preceding Friday's session.
The next session will be:

Friday, 12/13/2002 6:00PM EST (GMT-0500), for 48 hours

The chat with eGenesis and MDO Games will be:

Friday, 12/13/2002 5:00PM EST (GMT-0500)

New this session is the Cooperage skill, which allows construction of
barrels for fermenting wine (which requires the Viticulture technology.)
With cooperage, you'll be able to build a barrel vice - however, it
differs from most skills: You'll also need cooperage to *use* the barrel
vice, which can be tricky. Very good players may find they're able to run
multiple barrel vices at once. Also, the skill is quite expensive.
This makes for an interesting paradox - in a guild, who gets the skill?
Even the wealthiest guilds will not be able to purchase cooperage for all
their members. Perhaps some enterprising solo players will specialize in
this rare skill. Buildings can be easily shared - skills can not.
Some of you may know Geoff (GeoffTut in-game), one of our most
experienced artists. He has completed some spectacular new graphics for
the Initiation into Conflict. Sevenblade is about to become my new
obsession.
Finally, the people at http://www.atitd.net have set up a shop for
atitd.net merchandise. How many other games have had a fan site go
commercial before the game? (Seriously, this stuff looks really nice.)

The next test is on Christmas?

The next sessions will be:

Tuesday, 12/24/2002 4:00PM EST (GMT-0500), for 24 hours.
Friday, 12/27/2002 4:00PM EST (GMT-0500), for 48 hours.

The 48 hour session is the one I promised a couple sessions back, which
was voted on in the poll.
I realize that many people have holiday commitments, so, for these
sessions I will make it so:

1. No building decay takes place.
2. Sheep don't starve.
3. Camels don't starve.

I'd like to congratulate our German partner, MDO Games, on their ongoing
and successful beta test of "Kemet - A Tale in the Desert." In just one
week, they have nearly completed localization of the entire game. Of
course, they don't sleep at all, but it's still quite an accomplishment.
For the Christmas session, people in the chat room said I'd probably
pass out lumps of coal. I thought this was a great idea! So, I will be
passing out coal as Christmas gifts during the play session. (I have also
created a cool new building type that uses coal!)

On the Nile,
Teppy Claus and the eGenesis reindeer

Wow that's a lot of testers.

Well, I don't have much else to do while waiting for Santa Claus to show up. Perhaps we should plan what we want to get done during these next sessions.

Did we want to get that master's casting box next?

We have all the other materials for it, we just need 200 firebricks and 50 rope. I can make the rope easily because I already have a lot of rotten flax and I just need to convert that over.

Edit: On a side note, I aquired some small saphires during the last session and we can probably start looking into building Obelisks for our Guild members.

Also, we'll want to look into building a Charcoal Oven possibly.

Let me know your thoughts.

*chuckles* Do you realize what the height of an obelisk is in our area?

I wasn't planning on building them in my area.

even surrounding areas are getting quite high by now.

But anyways, forgot to mention: don't upgrade to dx9 yet. ATITD isn't very happy with it, yet.

I already did.

I won’t be at home during the first session. I’ll have some time during the second session, but not as much as I’d like, so I don’t know if I’ll be of much help.

Well, I'll get the materials together then. We need to start organizing things better so we can catch up and participate more in research.

Next session i will be making my tent. If Val makes 80 nails for me

Do we have a rock saw yet? I got the skill to make one, but it takes a lott of resources.
The trouble is 150 oil and 20 leather, i need 20 more flint to, the rest is easy enough

We need to try to get some camel, so we need to bulk up on straw.
The eat a lott to. 1 straw a minute)

What about a greenhouse?
Sheet Glass: 20
Rope: 20
Clay: 250
Dirt: 500

I will get the clay if i will try to gather more flint anyway.
Will gathering clay i got a 1: 20 change to hity flint.

So much to do, so little time.

First I need to make the charcoal to fuel the making of those nails. And that costs a lot of charcoal. But I should have the nails by the end of the session. I've gathered plenty of iron for making the nails and then I'll make some more iron blades while I'm at it.

We don't need a rocksaw. There is a public one that we can use.

I've collected enough tin for the gears for the brick machine I plan to make. That machine will save us a ton of time and bricks will be easy to make. Now if only we could automate our mines.

I think getting a camel is a lost cause at this point. Besides, with the sheep we don't need camels. We could build another sheep pen so we can have more sheep breeding and thus increase our leather and oil production. Especially since sheep don't eat onions like they are going out of style anymore.

Oh and Moondragon, I built my obelisk and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg!
If someone else wants to build one (who has already built a tent), then you'll need to hurry and do it this session while the guild can afford it. You must visit the UoA to begin the test, then travel outside the Seven Lakes Region where it is cheaper to build an obelisk. I have the materials necessary for a small one but if you wait too long, then we'll need more ash and beeswax. We can get beeswax without a problem. It's the ash that is a pain to get.

I will work on that second sheep pen then.

It will take 1200 bricks

I will gather enough resources for a mine upgrade, just in case. That way we can upgrade mines faster.

What about the greenhouse?
It will take a lott to make those sheet glass.

I think i will learn how to fish, nyone got 1 paparus?

Okay, make more canvas though. The iron mine broke and I didn't have enough canvas to repair the thing. We also need more canvas for the tin mine. I've got the bricks, boards and jugs taken care of.

I can now make fine steel axes, so we'll want to make some steel before we fire up the master forge to make nails. I got around 500 charcoal done but I'll be needing more wood before long. We can forget iron blades and I'll just make steel blades (unless steel blades are too costly). With a fine steel axe you can get 3 times the amount of wood from a tree instead of the normal 2 times with a regular axe. Of course, I'll need to make enough steel blades for everyone to learn Precision Woodcutting at the School of Body. Joy.

Btw, Roach, did we ever upgraded the master forge with pinch rollers? I though we did, but I'm not sure.

As for the greenhouse... uh, let's just focus on the brick machine for right now.

I lugged that zinc back to camp and put it in the ores tent. Try to get more if you can. I forgot to mention, you'll also want to repair the dirt mine that we use to get coal as well. It broke too.

And keep an eye on those pesky sheep until I get back. I reduced them down to one male and one female so they won't eat too much while we were away.

My list of things to do is getting longer and longer:
Make charcoal
Mine ore
Get more wood to make more charcoal
Make canvas to repair the mines so I can mine more ore
Grow onions for those pesky sheep
Gather resources for everybody's tests
Make all the stuff for the brick machine: 100 Bearing, 8 Copper Sheeting, 4 Oil, 12 Rope, 1 Medium Gear, 12 Small Gear, 20 Boards
Grow lots of leeks
Figure out how to grow papyrus and dry it
Make ash
Make potash
Find and gather limestone
Make lime
Make melted glass
Make glass rods for everyone's Nav training at SoT
Make sheet glass for greenhouse
Make steel
Make steel blades
Make nails

*ahem*
Anyone care to volunteer for one of these jobs?
