Still having combat Woes

I'm trying to do the Mine quest outside of Caldera. I've killed the lookout, but the three bandits inside the cave outside the mine all attack at once and I don't stand a chance. Even two are too much. None of the spells I have are powerful enough to do much damage against these characters and a few slaps with the silver claymore aren't enough to do much damage before I'm dead. Healing potions aren't much use because their effect is negated immediately once three attackers hit at once.

I need some strategy tips here because the only other quest I have at the moment is to find the thieves to the east of Caldera, and I can't find them although I've searched high and low for hours. And of course, without success at one or two things every couple of hours makes the game a bit frustrating.

Here's what little advice I can offer. I hope it isn't patronizing but I just want to cover all the bases.
Repair everything (This improves your damage and defence)
Train your ass off (If you have any spare gold use it and if you have any good treasure sell it to creeper in the orc manor)
Divide you opponents if possible (use bottle necks or advance slowly so that one attacker follows you at a time)
If you're still having trouble then consider joining more guilds to help level up and bring in money.
Always attack a summoner instead of his creatures (when the summoner dies so does the creature. I don't think that this applies to your situation directly but it's something that's saved me a few times)
You might want to find a Thread titled "High level Deadric weapon early in game" and follow the instuctions there to get a better sword.
I hope that I've helped

best thing to do is to stand by the door. focus on one, try to kill him. once one dies, heal. Repeat. takes a while, but it's pretty effective.

I agree with guest. That's exactly what I did.Watch out when your outside healing up it can be itnterupted by an attack. That early in the game was the only thing I could think of.

THanks for the tips. In the end I used the hit and run technique, using the sword of sparks, which is far, far more effective a weapon than the Silver Claymore I was using.
