i have windows me and gothic keeps screwing up. and is the game over after killing the sleeper cause i beat the game in only 25 hours of playing. did i miss anything?

I also have windows ME and Gothic does sometimes lock up/crash/whatever but not often enough to really make it annoying.
Try turning off everything with ctr/alt/del until only explorer and systray are running.
Also, don't play after running a web browser; start your machine and turn off unnecessary programs to free up as much system resources as you could. It's just like running Unreal 1 used to be years ago--Gothic needs every scrap of system power you can give it, just don't expect it to ever be satisfied!
Beyond that, there's not much that it's practical to do.
