OKAY....I just killed Lefty(when he came at me for not giving out the water). He caught an arrow or two in the head. Anyways, an hour or so later I realized the 'give water to peasents' quest was not considered complete. I then checked a guide at it tells me Lefty wasn't *supposed* to die, even if I used a bow, and that after knocking him out I should have been able to talk to him and get some extra experience and complete the quest. Only he's dead, and if he did eventually get back up he's definately not where he used to be.

The same goes for killing Shrike(may not be his real name...it's the guy I have to beat up to get the hut). The guide says he can't be killed with arrows, yet he still dies, and the quest remains incomplete, and everyone seems kinda mad at me for doing it. Do I *have* to use swords to 'knock out' these two to complete the quests? It's just that I have absolutely no melee skills, and a swordfight with either of them would kill me. Am I going to be handicapped for the rest of the game in this manner because I rely on bows? Besides...I already saved my game after killing Lefty with the bow, and I have no idea how to get that annoying quest off the list. Thanks

Every vulnerable NPC dies if you attack him with your bow and his health is down. You must use your fists or a melee weapon to knock him out.

Maybe you can reinsert Lefty and Shrike and use a sword when you´re strong enough. Details can be found in our cheat guide.

btw., you should definitely use more than one save slot. Gothic is not Diablo.

In my opinion, if you want to be a ranger... great! After a while... there'll be no more quests requiring beatings. But unfortunately... if you want to finish the Lefty and Shrike quests... you can;t kill them.

The good news is that you can leave them for a lot later without much consequence. So don't do their quests yet until your strength and amor are up.

The bad news is that because you've already killed them, you have to cheat... and be forever branded a cheater! cheater!

Or, you can just start all over again... and learn to save more savegames at key points.
