I have an Athlon 1200mhz with a GeForce2 GTS. My mobo is a VIA KT133. I have tried everything I have found on these boards. Changing the sound provider, different drivers and DX versions but all to no avail. What the hell is wrong? It gets stuck soon after I meet the 2 hunters near the beginning of the game. Anyone have any ideas. No Other Games Give Me Problems. Why does this one?

Did you also try things like installing to the default dir, creating a large swap file, disabling sound, closing all other programs with ctrl-alt-del ?

It may not be a permeate solution, but I found that Gothic would "hang up" in certain areas of the game. After reloading and always getting stuck at these certain places, I just avoided them. If I couldn't I would use Marvin mode, and "K" to teleport through the place. It's only a quick fix, but I finished the game, and only have to do that a few times. Anyway, I though it might be worth a try, Good luck!

P.S., Save often, there is nothing worse than losing an hours worth of play because the game just froze.

Well, I really think i will have to do the Marvin Mode teleport thingie. I think I have no other choice.
Thanks to everyone who wasted a little of their life to help me out on this.

Let me know if it works, I would be interested to know if this "freeze" thing was a real bug or just something that happened on my computer.

what really sucks is when gothic crashes in the middle of saving it. that happenend to me once andi had to start all over again. now i always use two saves paralell to each other. in other words, i take turns saving mz progress on each one, it has been real effective so far since mz comp crashes about 4 times a daz when i play gothic. i have WinXP Pro, so either gothic doesnt like microsoft, or i have a hardware conflict (no doubt the latter is more likely)
