Help with skills (haven't got the game yet)

I have yet to get Morrowind and so like countless other games, I like to make my character sheets when I'm not playing them. If anyone would please explain the minor major skills system. I know about the birthsigns and the stats (from pics). Just the skill system... ie how it works and a list of skills.

I'm looking to make a Mage/Archer guy (tell me if impractical). So I don't know what skills I should choose... marksmanship and magery or whatever.

All help appreciated.

Basically you start with a Skill selection screen (if you go custom class that is) Like so..

Then you can click on any of the Major/Minor Skills to replace them with whatever skill you choose. When you click on one you get this screen..

You can also choose your specialty area (Speeds up leveling in the particular field)..

Trying out your Archer/Mage Idea I picked...
Speed (+birthsign of 'Steed' gives +25 to speed), as this would be handy for backing up whilst firing arrows.

Marksmanship , (obviously)
Conjuration, this comes in handy as one of the first spells you'll probably want is 'conjure Longbow'.(way more powerfull than any ones you can buy at the start). Plus it kills two birds with one stone as it ups your Magic skills as well as your Marksmanship, Although you still need to buy arrows for conjured bows.

The other skills you can see here....

I couldn't believe how fast this little guy can run!! Now I've made him I'll keep him for a replay once I've finished with my Lvl20 Spellsword .

I think maybe the "reach for wallet" skill needs developing...
