I couldn't bare it that one of the great spiritual leaders of the world wouldn't have a place at the AoT. As I am a Catholic, I'm feeling sad and releaved at the same time. Sad because my leader and a preacher of peace has left this world. Releaved that his suffering and (let's face it) his embarssing publical performances(I'm talking about the drueling and his almost growling speeches from the last years) are now come to an end.

It is a sad thing to watch him pass away. Although I did not agree with him on everything, I did have a lot of respect for him. He was a good man and one of the few who truely stood for something in his life. While the world is a poorer place without him, he is truely home now and that is a comfort.

I don't need to repeat your sentiments. I feel the same way.
I know many people may not agree with his convictions, but he was a great statesman as well and did actively try to work toward peace.

It is a big loss. I am no catholic, I lost my fate a long time ago already, eventhough I am an Italian. And I don't agree with his thaughts and many of his statements, but even if you would hate where he stands for, you have to admire that man, he could hold on to his principals onto the moiment of his dead. His predecessor won't be too apreciated at start, sure thing. He will need sometime before he can adapt and be accepted by the public. But, my opinion is that the entire world is corrupt and they will put an old man to impress and he will be controled by other people.
Another thing, we (you guys, actually) shouldn't lose hope and stay happy, the world goes on and probably the next pope will be a better one and what I said earlier won't become true.

To me also, it was a day of great sadness and happiness. I am a Catholic, and I believe that he found rest and, surely, his reward in heaven. But there is great emptiness where he once was. All that can be done is to remember his teachings and understnd them, and hope that his successor will continue them.
He was strong, he never gave up, even though he suffered greatly, and fought for freedom and peace. He helped my country and people in freeing ourselves from communism. He opened the Church to the people and traveled to many countries, big and small, instead of staying put and locked in Vatican. He will not be forgotten and must be very happy now. He can be called a Saint already. Jan Paweł II.

It reminds you that no matter how loved or how large you are, death is still a necessary path for us all, and that we must prepare ourselves for the afterlife.
Although I am not Catholic, I am a Christian. I didn't know much of this particular Pope, but I still have to respect anyone that gives that much of himself to the church. If you ask any one person what is most important in their life, most people will mention their family. Priest give that up for their faith. It is the utmost sacrifice. Anyone dedicated enough to live the life of clergy is worthy of honor and respect, and so I give it. Rest in Peace, John Paul II. May you be blessed enough to see God.

I think it is good that it has finally happened. He couldn't do anything anymore the last few years and only hanged on to his pope-job (there's a beautiful word for it, but I don't know it in English.) He should have retired much earlier, instead of continueing without being able to actually do something.

Is it even possible for a Pope to retire? I thought a Pope holds that position until he dies.
