Beware virus in plugins?

Today I was playing Morrowind. Was talking to sugar lips in balmora when a small window popped up saying "bad pointer message. Error. Ask (forget the name, maybe dan or den...)" and it ended with a smiley.

I think this was intentional. The 2 plugins that were running: tower2 that creates a tower in balmora and the ordinator fix.

Be very careful. Now I wont run plugins anymore. Thank you to the a**h***
who created this spoiled pluging. I hope it's not a trojan.

Anyone with a similar experience?

It is not possible to put a virus in a Morrowind plug in. It is an error the Bethesda forgot to pull out of the game. Search the forums. Many people have reported it.

I got one of those once too. But mine ended with "The game will now crash - Have a nice day!" Then the game crashed and 'nice' wasn't exactly what I was feeling for that smart-alec...

I dont remember the end of the message but I hated the "smiley" which leads me to say that it might be a virus

Of course, my game crashed too

Still not a virus. Often while a game is being developed, the devs will have fun with error messages. If they can't figure out what the error is, and they know it is something that the other person can fix, they will put little jokes in. Usually, they remember to pull those error messeges out. Bethsoft, however, forgot a few.

Smiley means virus? HUH! Thats bad.

Is this message a virus too?

As a software developer myself I can s ay that many developers make "funny" error messages in situations that might not be so funny for the end user. They are just messages, harmless, Some apps do not tell anything, they just crash and forget the user. I rather see a smiley in this situation than have a pure plain crash...

Please folks, have some common sense here.

heheh. I don't think it's "folks" that are worried about this. Seems to be just a "folk."

Xanaki: Sorry but we're not all programers.

As I said i saw an error box. I couldnt read all of it because the game crashed immediately but I remember the smiley at the end. I thought it might be a virus and the author having fun at the gamer thus the smiley.

To me it is common sense too.

I knew it was something the programmers should have cleared out when I saw the name Chris Taylor on it (can't remember if it was FROM or TO) But its rather unprofessional to let it hit the public that way, wouldn't you say? Plus I was concerned that whatever had triggered that message was in my saved game and I would be seeing it again and again.

Fortunately, this only happened once to me in about 200 hours time-play.
Since it happened just the day after I installed my first plugins, I went to that quick conclusion.

Anyway, on Win2000, Morrowind is very stable. Only one crash every couple of days.

Yeah, I got this one once myself.......

Was a little annoyed about the message when I got it, but at least knew that it was a dev joke.....

Still annoying...........

Dunno about it being any more stable on Win2K than any other though... I get at least one crash (usually straight to desktop) during each play session. Not always, but usually.

Yes, I also usually get at least one crash during one play session. Usually directly to desktop without anything else.

I'm running on WinXP and the game is rock solid for me. But I'm not running any plugins yet either.
I crashed to desktop only one time, and it was my own fault (background programs running).
