I need to know how to get though the gate after the black mage if someone could inpart some wisdom on me that would be great |

take the scroll off the dead mage, read the scroll, open the doors... i dont think im missing anything...

The problem is that there is a 'sweet' spot where you have to 'use' the door. Just keep moving around in front of the center of the door and keep using the door. Eventually you should end up in the right spot.
PS this is the stupidest puzzle in the game.

you should ofcourse get the eye of power from the chest in the room to the right when you stand in front of the door.
