Questions about Thieves guild and Canthar |
|
I started tmy game intending to join the mercs and go all melee. I did not even know the Thieves guild even existed.
Anyways, I got to the point where Attile wants to meet me and gives me the key to the thieves guild. I go in and talk to them but have not started the initiation quests.
Question:
Is making a character with both melee and thiefy skills gonna be gimped? I am raising my 2-Handed and strenght. To become good with thief skills I would need to raise Dex and then take all those skills. Is there enough points to do this?
So what I did was say I would join and then she gave me the quest to steal that alchemists ring. I have not done that yet.
And now I have a problem with Canthar. I took the pass from Canthat outside the gate. WHen he asked for the favor I did what he wanted and got Sarah thrown in jail. But when I emerged from the sewers he let out that I was a convict?!?
When I talk to him he says this is what happens because I didn't help him? WTF? I did help him. Why did he do this?
I am not about to fork over 500 gold to that bastard as well. Anyway to kill him while he sleeps or something?
Thanks |

well in my experience there's sufficient skill points to not only be a good melee fighter and thief but also with a few hunting skills, a bit of forging, some alchemy and some % thrown at the ranged weapons for good measure. that said i tended to play as completely as possible (ie do all available quests and kill as many creatures as i could find) so i was a reasonably high level.
personally i would join the thief guild as i find that pickpocketing if a handy souce of income (and xp) while pick locks and sneak made most chests in houses easy prey
unfortunately i can't help you with the canthar question as i threw him in jail instead of sarah (and then kill him while he was in there for trying to blackmail me) |

Thanks Punter. I decided what the hell and learned the thief skills.
As for Canthar. I just followed him home one night... |

And when you get enough of the thief-guild you can also kill them all and finish the thief-guild-quest you can get from lord andre. |

yes I did. I returned to a slightly earlier save game and have noticed something. The bug is triggered by my talking to Andre. Walking into the barracks will auto start a conversation with Andre and he mentions that Canthar said I was a convict. As long as I stay away from Andre I don't have the problem. |

I played through the game intending to be a merc archer/thief (only 30 one-hand and 60 str), but due to having tons of points I ended up finishing the game with maxed STR and master one-hand.
I think there are way too many points available in the game to allocate. Now I don't feel trying paladin is worthwhile since I already did swords and archery. |

The only way to save sarah is to kill Canthar before he takes her spot. If you don't, she ends up dead in one of the caves (at least that's what I read here, I've never seen her in game).
How do you get the thieves to invite you? The first time I went through as a goody-two-shoes paladin, I turned everyone in and eventually killed Atille and got in that way. This time, I let rengaru go, and helped out Nagur, but nothing is happening. If I use Melvin and portal into the sewers, I can tell jespar that I killed atille and do the quests, but I'm afraid that might screw up my game. Another weird thing is if I talk to Cass before jespar, she'll say "Ah so you got our invitation" which she didn't say last time I killed Atille as a paladin. I hope this makes sense and someone can help me out |

well there's 3 quest in relation to joining the thief guild. in addition to "the false messenger" and "the brazen thief" you also need to find a strange fish in the "bandit raids" quest which leads you to the fishmonger in the harbour. from here go talk to kardif and he'll tell you that someone's looking for you and to go behind the fishmonger's shop. atilla should be there and will give you a key to the sewer |

well if you do the 3 quests in the favour of the guild atilla should quite willingly hand you the key (although he won't actually tell you what it's for) before wandering off to grab a plate of fish soup (or he's just there to chat up the cook ) |

That's just typical...with my paladin I found that fish and didn't know what to use it for...this time I don't find the fish and actually need it ><
Thanks for the help. |

well unless you've accidentally sold it, it should be in a chest in the cave where you killed the bandits. once you use the fish, instead of eating it you'll open it up and find a letter |
