Nice to hear from you! I'm still up for it. Rumor places SWG release date at June 25th. Devs havent said that, but they have said "this summer for sure," so even if its not in June, it'll be in July or August. But hey, i can wait. Planetside, Morrowind, and NWN is taking up my time until then. Its gonna be a good mmorpg.

It's getting there...

A lot more testers added this weekend. Second server added. Crippling database corruption bug though has popped up though, last couple days been kind of rough.

Since they haven't announced 'gold' yet, I don't think that the June 25th date is doable, even though that's what most of the online stores have announced. Not to mention, the current state of the game is still rough, and missing some key features. But it definitely is getting better. It looks a lot like mid-late July. However I get the feeling that the 'Gold' announcement is coming any day now as the art has been feature locked, at which point I'm sure they will announce the release date also.

Ahhhh, Wiz 8..great game! I played it a couple times..very tough to decide what party to use, or if you want to go solo..spent MANY hours in the tree town...forget the name now...but it took me forever to figure out the ropes, vines, etc.

Test, what other beta info can you give us? What type of effects did that bug produce, and have they repaired it yet? Would you say that the population on all the planets is climbing now? Can you even play all the planets?

I agree that June probably won't happen..I'm hoping for it by mid july, my birthday is the 12th! And you can bet it won't go gold (meaning the game CD's have gone into production) for several more weeks at least. They can't go gold until the NDA drops, and open beta begins..assuming, of course, they keep that timeline..I'd love to see it come together in the next 6-8 weeks...

I thought they werent having an open beta? I mean open beta where anybody can download it from say fileplanet and log on with a key. I still havent gotten an invitation and i always knew somehow that i wouldnt get one due to the chances. They arent letting all 450,000 people into the beta, are they? Wizardry is okey, i played it but didnt like the enfusing of medieval fantasy with sci-fi, that just doesnt cut it with me. So i played that game for a few days and thats all. But at least you like it! Planetside is fun, although i dont know how long i will be willing to pay for the subscription. maybe until either: 1) i get sick of it, or 2) a different game replaces it. It sure is a novel experience though -- FPS hybrid with MMO is pretty fun. You havent been in battle until you are on a team of 40 reds trying to overtake a base full of 50 blues. Lots of fun. Bullets and lasers flying everywhere, people dropping like flies. Ducking real quick behind a tree to hide just as an enemy tank blasts by. Blowing away other people. Now thats fun, lol.

Yep...ditto...I sent in my 2 sentences to Q..

Ya know, though, I'm really hoping that by being up to some magical number of testers, and having a couple of servers up (my understanding, anyway) they MUST be getting close to a release, or at least dropping the NDA.

well, I found out that they wanted people with little to no exp in beta testing, which sucks, cause I told them about ALL my testing exp, so I guess that ruled me out months ago, oh well

Oh well, its coming out within a few months anyway, from what i hear. I am really hoping for a June 25th release, since most of the retailers project that date as being the day. Maybe an internal source at Lucasarts told all of them that release is June 25. Hey, its possible. At least its a "summer release" for sure now. It better be. I am tired of waiting for a decent mmorpg to come out, its driving me wacko...

Well, that sucks Shrapnel, because I have NO prior beta experience...

I figured I didn't make it b/c my current rig just barely meets specs: P3 1GhZ, 512 MB RAM, etc...

Planning on upgrading when SWG comes out, but I'm waiting as long as possible, watching the prices go down, and hoping they continue to do so! The wife won't let me spend too much on new components...I have to bargain shop!

According to dev posts, actually most people in the SWG beta got there through luck more than anything. The majority of testers were chosen based on random drawings. A few there were hand-picked but that is only a few, like the 100+ that just entered. And even if you have a monster of a system, doesnt mean you made it in. I have a little less than the highest system specs possible in the market right now (3.06 ghz hyperthread, 1500mb ddram, 128radeon9700pro), and i didnt get into beta. So it was mostly based on luck, and sometimes situational things like whether you have been given a buddy key from a friend or if you work at the local EBgames store. What really makes me mad is that people who had applied for beta TWO YEARS ago and followed the game's developments for two years, like myself, didnt get in because of a stupid random drawing that allowed people who applied for beta a week ago to get in. Thats just unfair, and not getting in to beta after all that time (TWO YEARS) is just a big disappointment. At least the damn game comes out within a few months. That lessens the disappointment a tad

But lets look on the bright side. At least we dont have to put up with all the server down times and bugs. We wont miss that, i think hehe

I agree, totally. While it would have been nice to be in beta just to get a "feel" for the game, I don't know if that will outweigh the down servers, unstable sessions, and constantly changing sections of code. That said, I certainly wouldn't turn DOWN a beta opportunity now!!

I hope to see this game out in the next 6 to 8 weeks...I really don't think it will make the June date speculated by a lot of retailers. I preordered my copy just the other day at the local Gamestop, just so I could be ensured of a game when it releases. I've never been more hyped about a game; I usually give it a month or two after release to read reviews and such. This game, though, is SO much different for me! I hope none of us are disappointed!!

I share in your enthusiasm. I have been waiting so long for a decent mmorpg to come out, its sad. I mean, the last mmorpg i played was DAOC, and i only played it for a total of, say, about 20 days grand total. But before that i played at least 1000 hours of Asherons Call (the first one) and about 10 hours of Anarchy Online. But SWG... oooh, it gonna be sweet !!! I am so excited, especially since its release is so close. And especially lately i have heard and read a lot of beta tester comments saying that SWG beta is the BEST beta by far and the best mmorpg they have EVER played. They are also saying that SWG in its current beta state has MORE content than the base Everquest along with all of its expansions. And they are saying the graphics are really really excellent, especially in the last patch apparently they turned up graphical detail so high that everyone had to lower the settings, LOL. And they are saying that SWG actually lives up to the hype. Now THAT is saying a LOT. I've even heard numerous comments from beta testers that SWG LIVES UP TO ITS HYPE, now those were the best comments i have heard so far and i have encountered very few negative opinions, which mainly come from people that would rather play PlanetSide. I am playing Planetside too, but i am going to quit planetside as soon as i get SWG.

A semi reliable source? You sound like the people on the SWG boards! Gamestop employees, people "in the business", or just the average Joe Schmoe that claims he knows more than the rest of us.. I hope they're right!

I'm a little concerned, though..I mean, it's june 3, and we're pretty much still in the dark about the games development. No official words from the devs (in that regard) for quite a while now. We know beta3 is ongoing, we've been shown some beta stories (quite impressive!), but we really don't know much more than that. For a June 25 release, they'd probably have to go gold by 6/18 at the latest. Which would mean, most likely, the NDA should be lifting any day now.

I'm a bit skeptical about the release date. I'd expect it more late July/early August, but I guess I'm more of a pessimist than optimist. I do think the earlier they release it, the better. I know a lot of the community is getting really irritated by the late release, especially with the other games coming out now and in the near future. SWG would defeat most games if they released at the same time, but, by being held back a month or two more, they'll have a LOT of catching up to do!
