That one in Harbinger is something different - but I do not know much about that game.

This will get a few more responses here, I think. *kicks topic gratuituously through two mountains until it lands in CRPG general*

Deus Ex
System Shock (if DX counts, SS counts)
Any of the Dragonball Z rpgs for the consoles (though if you don't think DBZ is fantasy there's something wrong)
Anachronix

Online games have a bigger selection

Star Wars: Galaxies
Anarchy Online
Neocron

What exactly do you mean by not fantasy?

Does it have to be Sci-fi or do you mean anything that isnt a Tolkien rip-off?

I personally always wanted more historical RPG:s. Early dark ages or bronze age would be interesting. Or why not a Roman setting.

In that case, Planescape Torment is probably the most original RPG setting I have ever played.

And Deus Ex is really dark, but it is probably more sci-fi than fantasy and it is probably more shooter than RPG :].

The Naruto setting is pretty cool. Nomads is also good. But one of the best, or most original, is the Myst setting.

As for Deus Ex, it's WAY WAY more RPG than other games claiming to be of the same genre. Meaning, that Deus Ex is way more of an rpg than Arx Fatalis, Wizards and Warriors, Diablo 1 and 2. Kind of on par with Wizardry 8.

Im with you Chekote, The Planescape setting is one of the best Ive played.
it sure beats tolkien rip-offs.

Im not trashing the fantasy setting because I dont like it (I do ) but because it hasnt evolved from its roots( Tolkien).

as for historical settings I would like a roman setting and a spanish one (during its greatest).

ArS, I seriously think you should check out S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost. It takes place at Chernobyl in 2006. It's going to be released in Summer of 2004.
