Europa 1400 an RPG?

I read this review of "Europa 1400" at IGN: http://pc.ign.com/articles/378/378894p1.html

It is listed as Economic Strategy, but from what they describe it seems more like an RPG than some of the actual RPG's I've played lately. Anyone play this game? I haven't played, but am curious. I searched for some other reviews, and the ones I found mention the RPGness of the game.

No, it is not, but it's a fun game nonetheless.. I have it, and it's quite challenging on the harder difficulties.

The game: You build up a dynasty, and your family line keeps this dynasty alive. You can start as a smith, thief, priest and so on, and you have to expand your business, and make money. Also, you may enter politics, and even become mayor one day..

Whether or not it is worth buying, is up to you, but it's "unusual game", so I'd try a demo first.

Hmm, another thing, there actually is a small RPG factor, but that is only evolving your main character, but the stats the main character gets, only improves his, or her, workers.

Here´s the Gamespot review. You might need to copy the complete link.

Masses of infos/opinions can be found in the GoneGold forums. The Guild is the most popular game over there right now.
The game was a huge hit in Germany last year. Probably the only one that earned JoWooD real money besides Gothic II (and the 1000th Panzer Elite SE rerelease. )

There should be a demo somewhere. An English patch for the full version is announced for January.
