Early-level characters and dungeons

One thing that I do regret is trying to do a lot of dungeon-crawling with a beginning stealth-type character, and later on a magic-type character. Yes, there were definite advantages over a fighter, but it doesn't seem to balance out. Even after a few levels and some very nice spells, when I thought I had developed my mage a bit, I wasn't able to hack some of the stuff that I'm just waltzing through with this less-developed Redguard Knight.

I guess that my advice to brand-new players would be to avoid dungeons, tombs, etc. unless you're just starting out without adequate weapon skill and heavy armor. Be prepared to rest often. I guess that it's POSSIBLE to clear out the dungeons, but it can be frustrating!

I am finding the same results as you are. Mages in the begining are simply to weak to do much. When I get my new CD Rom I am going to recreate my mage and before I join the mage guild or start the main quest I plan to just kill a lot of rats, crabs, worms and those annoying bat things. Hopefully I will get to level 5 and then I will start the story line. Now if only UPS would hurry up and get here hehe. Having withdrawals

I agree as well. My nightblade character uses magic/stealth skills with light armor and he was unable to take on the first few dungeons head on either. I actually had to unlearn a few things and actually roleplay my character - use my stealth magic to hide and sneak around guys instead of fight them.

Even then, I encountered a few caves that I was simply too low lvl for and will have to go back later.
