Indeed, the developers from PB were here posting troubleshooting tips and spoilers for some of us gamers before.

Im glad to here it

You mean the location of RPGDot? A cheap WHOIS gave me this address:

That was my point reallly, guess I wasnt clear
Not one of those interviews in English was releated to the US release and many of them were on European sites.
Not that I have any thing against Europeans(actually the females are quite tasty) its just 2 years ago Gothic didnt get much press outside of Europe not to mention 4 years ago for Gothic. This means many interviews were missed by people outside of Europe (which is alot), they didnt get link to many of the biggest sites outside of Europe, basicly.

Don't say that or KaiRo will come and kill you

See above, he can come and kill me, but ill still be correct/accurate and he will have a dead fan instead of a live one

Not sure, but I believe German is the most common language in Europe.

I had no idea, that was/is true, each country has its own language, I didnt realize Gernan was the dominate language, we dont get taught/hear that at least in the US.

I'm afraid if this is not even possible

Well, I dont see how its not possible since it doesnt effect the sources story.
I saying that its possible PR didnt want to correct/fix translation problems like they did do in Gothic 2 US version, and in turn making Atari not want to publish it.

Um... sure.

Scarcasim ?
You implying im not being open minded?
I dont see why

German in the wider sense is spoken in seven European countries I can think of right now (in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, a small part of France and a small part of Belgium), but I don't know if that makes it the most widespread language. What is a fact, however, is that the German language games market is the biggest in Europe.

Also jaz It's one of the most important languages as well. But they could publish the german add-on in english as well. It's not that I've a problem with the german language (it's the other thing around).Since I didn't want to order it from internet I bought it from Luxemburg. But even there some shops didn't have the add-on.

I have to disagree. Google a bit more, you'll find a few interviews from the US.

Just a question, are you blaming Piranha Bytes for the game's lack of publicity?

Of course they didn't want to fix it. Correcting mistranslations is not the public relations' job.

Anyway, your assumption is possible but not probable. Here is my assumption: G2US' sales didn't go too well comparing with Atari's other games such as NWN, so Atari decided not to distribute it. Ya I know, it's just as weird as yours.

I didn't say you're closed-mind. By saying yourself "open-minded", you are implying that you are more open-minded than most of us. What makes you think this is true?

German is not most widespread language in Europe. It's spoken in "middle Europe", i.e. in Germany and some countries surrounding it. English is still the language known and used all over the Europe. Basically, releasing the game in german will limit the market a great deal, releasing it in english right away will increase the market significally. Too bad PB/JoWood still don't get it. Beats me how they fail to realise that by releasing the game in german first, and then releasing the english version YEAR(S) later, will simply cut down the money they could get on the product, if they'd release it right away in english. By the time the translated version is out, the product is already year or more old, out of date, not to mention big part of the customers have simply given up the waiting and moved on to other titles. Only the real "hardcore" fans are still waiting and will get it then, but then it's already too few, too late.

And yes, I do claim this to be so, because I also work for a company, which develops and disributes the software worldwide, and it became clear LONG time ago to us that making the product in some non-english language first will only hurt us in a long run. So, the products we release come out all in english first, and immediately hit worldwide market, and after that we also create localized versions, which also all go well, because people have tried the english version, and have liked it, and want to get localized version to use it even more indepth.

So, yeah, too bad if PB releases the G3 again in german first, and later tells that "Sorry, but we cannot release the english version or add-on's or whatever (or will release it 1-3 years later), because the sales figures worldwide are too small, yaggadi-schmaggadi.." Duh, OF COURSE they're too small, you started from the wrong step.

I have the same question.

Whailor,

What you said makes a lot of sense and I've wondered the same things. Consider Starbreeze, the developers of Enclave, Chornicles of Riddick, and Knights of the Temple. They are a Swedish studio, but their games are released in English. Same goes for IO -- a company in the Netherlands that makes the Hitman series for Eidos. Those games are not released in Dutch, but in English.

They see that English is a widely spoken and that will enable their product to reach the big markets.

Now, one thing to realize is that according to Gorath & Jaz, the German market is big enough to warrant an exclusive German-only release. Both Gothics were best-sellers in Germany and provided enough revenue to keep Jowood happy and PB in the games business.

So what I am wondering is how much of Gothic's success in Germany can be attributed to the fact that the game was in German. Is there a sense of pride or nationalism at work here? A sort of "pat on the back" for the hometown boys? No doubt it would be preferable to play a game in one's native language -- but had it been released only in English would this have hampered its German sales? I wouldn't think so because a good number of Germans already speak English...

Gothic 3 is shaping up to be a landmark CRPG. I truly hope that Jowood will pull out all the stops in Marketing this game WORLDWIDE and especially in the USA market. It is truly astounding how many US CRPG players are still ignorant to the Gothic series. The Gothic series really has too much to offer to be sidlelined into a German niche product. But so far, this is how all publishers seem to treat it.
