I take issue to some of the negative things that one of the Anon. posters had to say about Gothic not really being what the game makers say it is. I believe you are being much too harsh and would love for you to show me a game, with 500 NPCs, where every single character is unique and there is no use of cloned NPCs. In Gothic it makes perfect sense for the clones to be there - they are a part of the social order like "diggers". There are plenty of different looking and acting characters and the routines they go through are outstanding (such as eating, sleeping, playing music, etc.). There are also plenty of unique looking and acting characters. I would rather have 500 NPCs with 200 unique ones then just 200 unique (it makes for a more realistic population and environment - sort of like window dressing). As far as this comment -
"Never have I had the option this far to really offend or anything any of the NPC's by talking"
*Very minor spoiler*

If you had experimented with the game some more maybe you would have noticed the many things that can happen during talking routines like when a guard approached my character and asked for protection money of 10 ore(I had 101 ore). I told him that I did not have it and he grabbed me and found my ore. He did not like that I had the ore so he took ALL of it.
So in closing please play through more of a game before trying to turn other people off of it. I would venture to say that you are more guilty of false advertising then the game makers themselves.
