What's with the pyramids?

Do they have any use at all? I went there and there was nothing of great value in the chests. I wnet into the nearby cave and there was only a couple of coffins and Golems that materialized out of rubble. Why was there strange markings of that "realy old map" that I bought of the cartogropher (not sure what his name was) Is it going to have a signifagance in "the night of the Raven"? (the water mages standing in front of it, is a bit of a giveaway...)

Hm, I don't know, the Orc Slayer, one of the most powerful one-handed weapons for the first few chapters of the game, being nothing. And then the ring that improves every defense rating by +10 in the cave with the black goblins and the golems right beside the pyrimad being nothing either.

I would believe that both of these items are worth the trouble of going there. And the golems are guarding the treasure in the cave, that is why they activate as soon as you have, let's say, acquired it.

No need to run, the golems are'nt very hard to beat unless you are very weak/untrained, and even then you can still prolly beat them with a few reloads. As soon as you see them "awakening" run up as close as you can and swing swing swing. Most of the time they never get off a hit because the are trapped against the wall. If they are on the open, just time your swing for as soon as they are in range.

I didn't try to kill the Golems. I didn't have a hammer on me and I can only cast holy missile about 3 or 4 times. I wasn't in the mood for playing chicken with them. Now, can anyone shed light on the old map?

I believe the map is just that, a pointer to the cave for those, who do not like to peek behind every boulder, around every corner and so on

The ring and the rest in that cave is probably all that treasure.

Thing is, in G2 you are not required anymore to beat down the Golems with hammers or maces as you needed to do in G1. It is quite possible to take them out with swords or axes, too.

The old map is just there to inform you of the treasures (orcslayer and that ring) if you are not of a very inquisitive and explorative personality.
