The island of Vvardenfell may not be huge by real standards but by game standards it's huge. After uncountable hours I've only covered 15-20% of the map. I've not touched the east coast.

I recently spent some time at top of Vvardenfell and felt homesick for Balmora! (I've decided that's my base for the moment).

The world is huge considering the full install size of about 600 MB at least.

Think of Planescape Torment/BG1 + 2 (4-5CDs) or Wizardry 8 (3 CDs).

The first two titles are hand-drawn. Not sure about wiz8.

Suffice it to say that with a tile-based approach morrowind can save a lot of space.

I can see what what some peoples problem is...
its like Everquest is a game packed with content but it doesn't feel 'real' in the same way as a game with allot less content but a huge game world like Asheron's Call

Hmm...I'm not sure I follow. How can a game with less content feel more real?

Hmmm... I suppose that some people find it more realistic and enjoyable to have huge, empty tracts of wilderness.

Aracanum had this. for me, it had no effect of the gameplay... every time I stopped somewhere there was the same generic crap.. you could not find anything interesting just running on foot, the only way was to travel to marked locations on your map.

Don't feed me anything that takes an hour to load and another to get into!" I cannot say that I did ken more than a word or two but the feeling is evident; he doth wish for a faster-paced game!

I recommend the overly excellent DUNGEON SIEGE, from the fine purveyors at Gas Powered Games as a much intense, densely packed adventure that doth never present a dull moment! Methinks thou mayest enjoy it heartily and indulge in surabundant slaughter in thy quest to rid the evil!

May the purses of the beasts that thou dost slay be filled with gold!

Sir Vincealot,

No point to this, but I just wanted to say that I've been enjoying your posts all day. I do hope thou decides to stick around.

Just to add my own two cents to the discussion, this is my first "real" RPG. The closest things I've played in the past were a few of the console-type games such as the Final Fantasy series, and Dues Ex, which is really just a nice FPS with a lot of bells and whistles. Also, I used to love the old adventure games such as the King's Quest series. So I really don't have a guage to compare this to.

In any case, I LOVE THIS GAME! I'm probably forty hours into it, and I've barely covered five percent of the map. There is no way that you can judge the scope of this world just by running along the roads. You can hardly walk a few hundred yards off the road before coming across another dungeon or a new quest of some kind.

My only complaints would be the static nature of the NPCs and the infuriatingly un-user-friendly Journal. I've got notes strewn all over my den, trying to keep track of what I need to do, and who I need to see. I've completed several quests, only to realize I've forgotten where I met the person who gave me the quest. I really wish there was a way to add your notes to the game. Speaking of which...

Funny thing about all those blank pieces of paper you find everywhere. I wonder if they originally intended to let you write on those, but the idea got scrapped at some point.

As accurate as that statement is, I'm left with a feeling that it's still a drastic understatement to the utter boredom the NPC's in MW offer.

I started playing Gothic again last night and suddenly realized just how much better that game is than Morrowind...

Oh common. The NPCs are so much more advanced in MW. They recognize cloths, behaviour. They have line of sight. In gothic they have a simple path they follow EVERY day. Its repetitive and silly, and its just as lame to see a npcs walking around doing nothing then seeing an npc making ONE board all year.

The npcs in Gothic are flat and boring, but well animated. In mW they are so incredibly much more advanced, but the animations suck. Now you chose which is better.

Actually, Morrowind is smaller than Daggerfall AND most cities look the same. All places with a "Tel" in the name looks the same, every Vivec like cities look the same, every fishing village look the same. IMO Morrowind looks as repetitive as Daggerfall. Its still a great game, but not VERY VERY VERY good as its hyped up to be.

please note that 'better' is an opinion, not a fact. I wont give all the reasons why I think MW is much more advanced and better as Gothic, but please dont tell us 'gothic is better'. Thats a bit simple and, no offense, childish.

Ok, in my opinion, Gothic is a better game. Morrowind might be a better role playing game, but Gothic is more enjoyable for me. The reason is that, Gothic did very good at what it does, where as Morrowind tries to include many things but only succeed in some aspects. So Gothic was perfect, or close to perfect for what the Devs planed out. Morrowind, on the other hand, is a faulted masterpiece. I'd list some examples, but those are very obvious and too many.

Since we're once again doing the better game bit, I'll just say that I think...no, I KNOW that Morrowind is better. So there!
