Newbie question

I've not had much spare time to play recently (prolly won't in the near future either) but I have been bugged by the question:

"How does a gadgeteer find formulas for combining items?"

I have just finished 2nd trip to the monastray (with the wheel key) and am about to depart for the land of the Trinnies (?) and have found a number of items, but have NO idea what to with them.

Any suggestions?

You just have to use trial and error. Or you can look here.

Thanks Val.

Is the list exhaustive, or should I mess around with other ideas as well?

As far as I know, those are all the combinations possible.

If you follow the "usual" order of doing things in the game, it will be quite some time before you get to build many gadgets. Arnika will net you the stuff for the (largely worthless) jack-in-the-box. Trynton will get you the stuff for the lava lamp. This means you'll have one gadget before level 10, and one right around there. (again, if you go somewhat straight by the script)

BTW, at the moment I'm just a bit ahead of you. I've left the monestary the second time and headed toward Trynton. I'm currently on a detour thru the graveyard easter egg.

Lintra note that only items classed as "Gadgets" can be combined with other items of class "gadget" (item info), but as already written above you have to go further into the game before you are able to make your first combined gadget! All other (for now) strange items are often classed as "other", and may become usefull in the future when you figure out what to use them for.
I you however feel you get to much equipment, you can actually store items in chests, or sell them to a merchant, with possible rebuy later on!

I think there are several topics about this, so you can find more info - if you want to :].

No thanks Danicek, not yet. I have a bad habit of trying to discover all this stuff on my own... then later I get to read about all the goodies I missed, so I am motivated to play again

But thanks for the head up!

Well Lintra, best of luck. You'll probably figure out the first half of that egg puzzle, but without a trainer you'll never figure out the second half unless you're the luckiest guy in the world.

When you're ready, we'll be here for you.

PS- I'll probably get in a couple hours this afternoon. That should be enough to finish the dungeon and get back on the road to Trynton. Pressure's on!

Just be careful about one thing according to a spoiler I read elsewhere. Once you start the first half of the puzzle, you must finish the puzzle without leaving the area (which I believe means that you don't have the game load another level; i.e. don't start the graveyard puzzle, go to Trynton, and try to return to complete the puzzle). Otherwise, you can't solve the puzzle.

I don't know if it's true, but I figured I should warn you anyway.

You never know I might *just* get lucky and work it out on my own ... then again, maybe not
