Crash's with new graphics card

Hello all.

This is my first time on the board, so I hope someone can help me.

I've had gothic for about a month and all was running smoothly. But I decided to try and improve things so I bought some new memory (upgraded from 256 to 512 Meg) and a new graphics card (upgraded from Matrox G450 to ATI Radeon 8500). But I don't think the memory upgrade will cause a problem.

And now gothic won't run. It crashes as it loads. I get the loading screen and when the gothic window tries to open all goes wrong.

My other system details : Athalon 1.2 gig, creative live!, Windows ME.

I've read about a patch to version K, but this seems to specify users of Win98, but could I still get this problem too? I'm also using DirectX 8.1.

Would switching to an older version of DirectX work?

I hope someone can help as I was nearing the end of Chapt 2 and loving it!!!

Thanks in advance.

I recommend you first try to be sure wether the problem is in the new memory or in the new videocard. Start with removing the new memory and see how it works that way. If it works, the problem is probably in the new memory (maybe you bought the wrong type). If it does not work, put the memory back and replace the new videocard by the old videocard and see how that works.

Install the 1.08k patch anyway. Maybe it won't help but it probably won't hurt either. Also search your harddisk for a program called dxdiag.exe since it might give you some useful information about the problem.

Other games seem to work fine, so I think that the memory and graphics card are intrinsically OK, but the way that Gothic runs with these seems to be the problem...........

I have a Radeon 8500 as well and I seem to remember having to apply a patch to make it work. Go check for patches.
