I was recently bored, so I decided to try and measure the size of the Gothic overworld. I tried searching the forum, but couldn't find anyone else that attempted this before.
I started by measuring the width of the old camp by walking along the north wall, and found it to be 138 strides.
Looking at the map, I count it to be 7.75 old camp widths across, and 5.2 old camp widths down.
Finally, I killed a Shadow in the old camp who was about the same height as the main char. I lined up my toes with the heels of his boots, took one stride forward, and ended up right in front of his shoulders. I estimate it at 4.5 feet.
World width=7.75*138*4.5=4812.75 feet=0.912
World length=5.25*138*4.5=3229.2 feet=0.612 miles
Total = 0.558 square miles
I admit, it feels larger. Anyone care to verify/dispute my measurements? |

No, but that seems about right by my estimates from walking around whilst playing. Not very large is that answer - but then that IS a big bubble!

This isn't completely on-topic, but Morrowind claims that it will be 10 sq. miles, not including dungeons. |

Sorry, that just sounds super dorkish, while walking around the world you were estimating the square mileage in a video game. LOL! |

I read somewhere that the area under the barrier was about 5 km2.

I presume you mean "super dorkish" in only the most positive way - right?
And, actually, yes I was - on my second play through. I was on a high point looking out over the land and suddenly it struck me that this place wasn't all that large in actual terms. Yet, when walking around, it "feels" quite large. I believe this to be a solid testament to the "world engineering" done by the design team. As well, when I thought about it logically, I realized this WOULD be a smallish area (considering the effort to create a dome over the thing) in reality. So, I proceeded (not quite as anally as the original poster of this thread) to estimate the actual mileage I was traveling as I went about my exploring of the land.
