What if...

Well, Someone might have mentioned this I read about 30% of the posts and scanned the rest... I am on the parser side of the debate... but what has always frustrated me is : couldn't you "EASILY" have both? A three switch settings in the options... PureParser ( yer on yer own old schooler [ me ] ), HighlightedParser ( words and phrases in NPC dialogue are highlighted if the NPC will continue to talk about them [ Ultima 6, and Worlds of Ultima, among others ] ), and ClickParser ( the words that would otherwise be highlighted, are collected and added to a list interface [ just the way MorroWind does it now ] )...

Seems simple enuf... I code and know that when it "Seems simple Enuf" it ain't... But, why not approach it as Simple...

I think, pasers for Rpg are great too...
Most of the people think it's too hard ... they want to play simple games. It's even difficult for them to play a good RPG, so...

But, think ; this system could be use by everybody when, in several years, computers would have enough power to make speech recognition, vocal synthesis and a neural network to drive all the conversation...

Everyone seems to forget the bad old days when you'd be stuck for days trying to guess from hundreds of synonyms which one the programmer wanted. I remember having a thesaurus nearby to play some of those games...

This is why I was saying that the next step of technology will be synonymy. Only when we have that, will we be ready for context parsing.

Before my previous company went down the drain, my dream was (and I had my manager's full support, but time ran out), to port the original "Adventure" game to our technology. So that you can play it through an "intelligent" interface. Ah well, one day...
