Wow - Gothic is a great game - some noob questions....

I can't believe what a great game Gothic is. While Morrowind and NWN are certainly excellent titles as well, Gothic really details aspects of gameplay that I find particularly entertaining... high level of object interaction and NPC schedules... both remind me so much of the Ultima Games.

I spent time reading the walkthrough faq avaialable on here on rpgdot (thanks) but have a couple questions...

1) If I pick up a torch and then light it up by using it (my character in-game now hold the torch in his hand and it is flaming), how can I extinguish it and put it back into my inventory? The only way I know of to get the torch out of my hand is to go into attack mode. But even then, the torch drops to the ground still aflame and if I pick it up again, it won't go into my inventory, it will go back into my hand as if I'm carrying it again. Anyway, if I 'use' a torch, is there a way to extinguish it and put it back into your inventory? Also, do torches ever wear out from use? Or are they useble forever?

2) Is my inventory unlimited? I've been picking up everything I find and have quite a lot of crap now. Do I ever run out of inventory space? Is there any detrimental effect of carrying a lot of items?

3) I was given a hut in the old camp. Can I store stuff safely in my hut? Or will it get stolen? If the answer to my question #2 is that your inventory is unlimited, is there really any reason to store stuff in your hut?

4) I've heard that you can cook the raw meat you get off some of the animals. But how exactly do you do this? I tried using a pan that was over a small campfire, but all I ended up doing was eating my raw meat (ew). What are the exact keystrokes necessary to cook meat?

5) Are there any of the skills in Gothic an absolute waste to invest skill points into? I will play either a Mage or a Warrior.

Thanks for any help!

1. Unequip it in the inventory. I donŽt remember how long torches last. It doesnŽt really matter, youŽll find hundreds of them.
2. Yes. Use the crap to pay for goods and save the ore for more important things.
3. Yes. In chapter 1 youŽll face some human opponents who steal your ore if when they knock you down.
4. Use the pan while in non-combat mode.
5. All the secondary skills are more or less useless and/or a waste of skillpoints.

Torches will burn out after a long while. Yes, they can be kept back in inventory as a used torch. I don't remember how exactly offhand. Let me go back to play Gothic first.

Yes, it's unlimited. Some people complain that having a large inventory slows down the game. I've never experienced that myself. Although I keep it to a minimum simply so it's easier to browse through what I have... especially weapons.

You can store items safely in any chest. No one will ever touch. The question is more of how accessible the chest will be to you.

When you hold the 'use' key while the pan is focused, your chr should kneel beside it. Then press 'forward' and you will cook the meat... provided you have raw meat.

Lockpicking is useful... but only fo Fingers will speak up for you to join the Old Camp. Otherwise non-weapon skill really have very low value. Mage, improve your circles and mana. Warrior, improve your strength.

Cow flipping is very useful; but very hard to find someone to teach you

Also, I like to use arrows/bolts as currency. Unlike other things their value never changes so they are just as good as ore in most situations..
