I FIXED IT! I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!

You were NEARLY right, Joey Nipps and EX. THe problem wasn't the power supply in itself, but POWER.

A guy who had a similar problem wrote to the magazine C't - lo and behold, I did what they told him, increased core voltage, chipset voltage and voltage for RAM in the BIOS, and...

...my machine runs with 1700 now. No crashes in Gothic, no crashes in word, no crashes with the IE, no total lockups no more.

I'm so glad I could cry ...
