Has anybody seen this? re:patch problems.

I have the uk version of morrowind.
If i install either patch after the data file has finished loading and as the screen changes to the load/new game menu comes up i get kicked to the desktop. If i have no patch the game runs fine. The only addons i have are the offical ones and it makes no diffrence with them.I currentl have 6gb of saves and ive tried it with all of them and its a no-go.just wondered if anybody had any ideas.
system:
os:2k sp3
vid:gf2 gts(vid driver makes no diff)
sound:maxi gamer fortissimo
Im a pc support guy so ive tried all the normal things...

Hey there,

I've got the same problem. Phew, I thought it was just me.
I've got an Athlon 2000+, GF4 Ti4400, 256 Mb, Windows ME.
That's quite different as your sys, so that's not it.

Bethesda's service address advised me to shut down any background
programs. I did that and it oesn't matter, the game keeps
kicking me back to the desktop.

Haven't made any progress since.

Any luck?

Make a backup of your saved games. Then reinstall Morrowind and use the latest US patch even if you have the European version.

When the patch updates is working it looks like it all has frozen, just wait a while since it's still working.

Reinstall you plug-ins and add your backup of saved games. I think it will work now. And don't forget to use 32bits color at desktop since it's required for the game to run properly, and to use the same resolution in the game as in your regular settings for your computer.

I hope this helps, otherwise I don't know how to fix it.

I've fixed this problem on my computer.
After I checked if my computer was configured right
(DirectX, hardware acceleration on full) I did this:

Go to your runbox
Type msconfig

It should show you some tabs
select the tab 'startup'

Delete everything you don't need.
Mostly there's a lot of stuff in there that added by software
that you don't really need.
Windows makes a drawer with the removed items, so you can
place them back if you really miss them.
Just make sure you leave systray and explorer.
You don't really have to delete them all, just try 'em
one by one or so.

Click 'OK'
Restart your computer.

The patch and plugins should run fine now, at least in my
case. I hope this will cure your problems.

You will also find that your computer starts up a little faster...

Good luck!
