I can't remember what the cook told me to get him in the Old Camp, and I cannot find the game journal anywhere. There must be one, because I keep seeing it mentioned, but I have never seen it. I've looked in my inventory, looked at everything in it. There is one section that says "writing", but there is no journal there.

Is there a comprehensive list of ALL of the game play controls somewhere that I can print out? So I don't have to spend more time on the message board than I do playing the game? Because this is getting ridiculous. Are we supposed to be prescient?

Hagatha, do you have Setting in your Gothic menu and do you have Setting/Keybord menu?

There are described some keys and you can remap them. I know, there are not described key combinations.

But in mine is quest/jurnal approachable with: L or N.

Another information about conrols you can get from:
Jemmys FAQ and Walktrought, link is somewhere around.
Readme.html - you should have it installed, though I posted it once for someone who had not it here: http://dib.borec.cz/images/file/Readme.htm

Hagatha,

I had trouble with this.

"L" key for "L"og

also useful (when you get it) "M" for "M"ap.
