Ok, now this is frightening. I find myself scrolling really fast past the big fiery eye lest Sauron see me through my computer monitor...

The game is out now, so Im ressurrecting an old topic...

I do play Monk by the traditional concept, no posessions if it possible... The only equipment I carry is potions...

Does it work?
Mostly. I am able to kill almost everything with my bare hands, but it requires two things:
1) I must be at full health (at least until my Unarmored/Block is up to maximum)
2) The opponent are no more than 1 at a time.

I have already reached 100 in Hand-To-Hand, took less than a day to reach there... I hit everything I attack, but do very weak damage. Long-range-weaponry like spears/polearms is deadly in a opponents hand...

Best Regards

my experiences w/h2h

I had to throw this in here:

Without giving any spoilers, let me try to describe my first two h2h experiences. I'm a level 1 assassin (who is starting to think he should have stayed in the starter town to level up before exploring).

First, I tried to pick up someone's book to look at it while the owner was standing there. I just wanted to take a peek, I wasn't gonna take it, honest! Well, the guy didn't take too kindly to it & proceeded to beat the living crap out of me. By the time I got over my shock & fumbled with the keys long enough to "put up my dukes", as it were, the fight was almost over. For a minute I felt like I was playing some cheesy boxing game on a console because the guy would knock me down, I'd struggle to get to my feet, he'd knock me down again, etc. etc. After he knocked me down about 3-4 times I think he just kicked me in the face while I was down & killed me. I was pretty embarassed.

Later, I was trying to pick someone's pocket to take a key. I failed miserably & the mark whirled around & started after me. Well, I thought I had actually grabbed the key so I made a run for it & tried to deliver it to the person who requested it. Once again, I was very embarassed when the person said I didn't have a key. D'oh!

So I went back and as soon as I opened the mark's door he came after me again. I figured, yeah what the hell, and let him have it. After fighting this guy for about 10 minutes (real time), and raising my h2h skill about 3 levels, my punching finger was so tired I didn't even care anymore. For a while it seemed like he was staggering a little more each time I hit him but at the same time my fatigue was dropping a little too low. We were like 2 drunken losers fighting outside a bar. All we were really doing was making each other tired.

Since then I've come here & found another solution to my pickpocketing problem, but I'm not sure what to do with my h2h skills. I really don't want to prowl the streets just picking fights with people...

Well, you defenitly become better than that, but there is a limit that you will discover later.

I never miss with a handstrike, and punch quick like lightning. Only bad thing is that I dont do too much damage.

All of you who want to play hand to hand and needs something like critical stikes and martial arts should try Faerie mod that includes 3 new birthsigns that offer important skills for this kind "in original ESM not really suported" character.
However I didnt try it, so I am not sure if it will help.

If I am to restart a new character to select a new birthsign I rather change my class...
I still wait for a mod that contains HtH WEAPONS like brass knuckles or similiar.

BTW - h2h isn't meant to do damage first, but to draw fatigue. Basically you knock someone unconcious first, then kill him. Nevertheless, I think it is poorly implemented in some way...

If I encounter a tough opponent I am generally able to punch him until he drops. If he have a long range weapon like 2h and Spear I am forced to do it at full health to be sucessful.

I can take out both Deadra Lords and Golden Saints this way.

However, if they are more than one, I am dead meat, since:
a) While one person is lying unconcious in front of another stand-up enemy I will hit the lying person first, making it impossible to hit the one that is standing (making it easy for him to hit me without me able to hit him)
b) If opponent A have dropped becouse of fatigue and I am forced to fight opponent B it will be very difficult to make opponent A to stay down. They will rise almost instantly, often as a surprise since I am forced to concentrate on opponent B
c) I have still never been able to defeat three opponents that fights together, regardless their strength.

What would be required to fix up H2H is:
1) Critical Strikes as a skill
2) H2H weaponry like Brass Knuckles
3) A way to switch between deadly and stunning attacks
4) To be able to set H2H as a quick-weapon (required to make it pop up when using the mousewheel)
5) Adding spells for fist-combat.

Bethseda are unlikely to do this however.
