Hmmm... My desktop is 1940x1440... I wonder if Morrowind would go better in 1940x1440 than in 1600x1200
Best Regards

You should get best image/performance if your desktop and the game resolution match. For some reason I have not yet determined, it does not seem to effect performance regardless of which resolution you use (assuming desktop and game match).
I can speculate that through some weird magic Bethesda is some how rendering at max resolution and then outputing to lower resolution. It might be possible but I do know of any API instructions for that. If so that's pretty cool and would explain the performance hit people seem to complain about yet have top end systems. |

What do you mean specifically when you say it is not working? |

Well, there's no increase in FPS, and the game still stutters. _________________ The beer here in America is like making love in a canoe... it's f*cking close to water!

| Stop blindly changing settings you know nothing about. |

Some of you guys need to stop pi$$ing around with your system settings. It's clear from the contents of your posts you haven’t the slightest idea what you are doing. You are far more likely to screw up your system, than see any real improvement in fps. Trust me, when your system has gone down the toilet, you will be more than a little pi$$ed.
If you really want to tweak settings, make sure you do a complete system backup, BEFORE changing anything. Otherwise you will never get your systems back to the way they are now, not to mention all the e-mail addy’s, bookmarks, etc you will have lost.
It's fine if you know what you are doing, but many obviously do not.
Regards. |

I downloaded the modified EXE last night....took less than five minutes to complete the entire download and replacement process. The increase in framerate was not huge (7 fps outdoors, much more indoors, but then I never had low FPS indoors). I am now averaging over 20 outdoors in clear weather. And the flow is much smoother than before. So, thanks a lot for the tip!

I agree with some of the comments stated here that you should back-up your system before doing any changes and de-frag your hard drive.
The NO SAFEDISC version of Morrowind will only add a small amount to performance. The BIGGEST performance boost is gained from a fast processor (1.4GHz equivalent and above) and LOTS of RAM for Norrowind.
Tweeking your system will not do very much either. This has to do with the design of Morrowind not the quality of your system. Although I found RAM optimization helped, especially in the Construction Set.
I would get the GeForce4 Ti4200 if you are just upgrading from a pre-GeForce3 card for the sake of Morrowind. This card should be as cheap or less as a GeForce3 and it is a current model. The Ti4600 is overkill for Morrowind.
And I noted that some said Morrowind doesn't implement the GeForce4 as well as it should. I disagree. Morrowind, from all I have tracked over the past 2 years for this product was targeted at GeForce3 quality/performance specs. The GeForce4 just allows FSAA at 1024x768 to run like a GeForce3 with no FSAA. With the low price of the Ti4200 you get a "cheap" upgrade that will add a little to performance and quality.
By-the-way the GeForce5 will not enhance the visual quality of Morrowind, only the performance. The visual parameters were designed in over 12 to 18 months ago. |

As always, I prefer a higher resolution than FSAA... As I said, I now run the game in 1940x1440 and its actually faster than 1600x1200 becouse 1940x1440 is the same resolution as my desktop.
And boy, does it look good =)

The morrowind.exe is not in the folder of the link you mentioned anymore. Where to find it? Thanks. |

Use the Myth version...Replace both default game exe's with patched ones, and copy the video folder from your CD to your install directory...Works Perfect. This really did increase my game speed by about 15 percent. hope it helps some. |
