Thank You!! (RE: The Winch)

Having been a reader of these boards for a while I had read several threads about faulty winches. I knew that I would have to save before talking to Asgal(sp?) because the winch might be broken. Sure enough on my first try the winch became jammed. On the second try though it moved and I was able to open the door. Oddly enough the "winch is jammed" meesage is in-game so it almost seemed like it was supposed to be in there. What's the story on that? Any other winch areas I need to look out for?

winch problems are random, i think, just save EVERY time right before you use a winch just in case it screws up, it will save you a lot of grief...

It may have something to do with the focus quest where Diego fixes a winch for you. That might explain the source of the bug.
Other winches? There are several. Basically it's a good idea not to touch a winch before you have the quest to do so, because they cut off access to quest related areas. And yes, always save before touching one.

Even if you run into the winch bug there is no reason to panic. Every gate can be opened with the console if you know its name. Second solution is teleporting through it.

For me, I never try to touch winches of certain locations before I am assigned to do so; I even try to avoid hi-lighting them, so I never had any problem with them before. Only touch a winch when you have a quest involving it.

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate?
