Is Gothic going to peter out? |
|
I've loved this game so far. Not so much for it's action or story but for the presentation of the game world and the way you have to work up the ranks from nothing at the beginning, which makes your ascent to power feel all the more signifigant.(Was I the only one who felt a weird sense pride when I earned my first shadow armour?)
But now I'm at the New Camp, talking to the head mage, when he gives me a map that lists 5 objects that I must get. I hate these kinds of quests! The kind where you set out for the first object, knowing at the end of the first task that the next 4 is going to be exactly the same. Morrowind had one with the Hortator quest, Giants had it with the Reaper Races. The kinds of quests where there is only lots of fighting and no character interaction, and by the time you've collected all 5, you realize that you've almost finished the game.
Is this where Gothic is headed? I was kind of hoping that there would be more camp-related character quests in the game. Am I going get unexpected suprises when I find the items? Or am I going to find all 5 in locked chests deep in orc filled dungeons? I'd really like to know, because if that is the case, then I'm not sure I want to waste my time. |

The area where each one is located is different. There will also be someone there to meet you at the different locations. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Gothic does "Peter Out" somewhat as the game progresses. However the 5 item quest is not where that begins. The items are very well placed and it is interesting to find them, also you will meet plot specific characters that advance the story and make the quest way more interesting than anything in Morrowind. _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

You are now in the linear part of the game. This means more battles, less dialogs outside the main storyline.
Ahead of you are two sets of FedEx quests, a big battle, a big dungeon and a lot of story. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Oh well, at least I'll give it a try. It's too bad that the non-linear aspects of the early game in which you explore the different camps is lost. Tell me, is Gothic 2 any different? I was thinking of buying it when it comes out, but I wasn't sure if it was just a rehash. |
