I havent actually bought the game yet, I wanted to ask the quintessential "should I buy this game?" and get some opinions.
A more spesific question would be: How is character generation done? Also, what skills are there and how detailed is the character progression?
Thanks

There is no character generation!

The game is based on skill points (SP). Whenever you level-up, you earn 10 SP and you spend those to increase strength, dexterity, mana or to learn sword skills, magic circles, hunting, sneaking, etc.

Strength: starts with 10, 1 SP = 1 STR
Dexterity: starts with 10, 1 SP = 1 DEX
Mana: starts with 5, 1 SP = 1 MANA

1-Handed Weapon: 10 SP for lvl 1, 20 SP for lvl 2
2-Handed Weapon: 30 SP for lvl 1, 40 SP for lvl 2

Bow: 10 SP for lvl 1, 20 SP for lvl 2
Crossbow: 10 SP for lvl 1, 20 SP for lvl 2

Lockpicking: 10 SP for lvl 1, 20 SP for lvl 2
Pickpocketing: 10 SP for lvl 1, 20 SP for lvl 2

Sneaking: 10 SP
Acrobatics: 10 SP

Hunting: 1 SP each for a total of four

Magic: 10 SP for lvl 1, 15 SP for lvl 2, ..., 35 SP for lvl 6

At the end of the game, you are like level 30, so you have about 300 skill points to spend. How you spend those points is totally up to you.

To summarize this, all the char management and numbercrunching is minimized. You have the freedom to develop your char the way you want.

Play the demo to find out if you like the atmosphere.
