Spells of Gold: Review @ Gamers Europe
The last 'Spells of Gold' review I posted about gave this game the dubious honour of the lowest score I had encountered in my time as an editor here. That has now been bested with Gamers Europe's review handing out a score of 1/10:
Graphically SOG uses an isometric 3D approach that would give quite a lot of RPGs a run for their money, that is if it had been release in 1995. Backgrounds are completely static and although look fairly pretty are redundant for the most part as they are barren of all interest. Also if you do manage to continue playing this for longer than it takes to eat your own tongue you will notice that everywhere is exactly the same. The towns may have different names and slight changes to layout but that is all. These static cities of fun are inhabited by several blobby little pixels called characters. However not content with looking the same as each other they also tell you exactly the same thing as the last. Within the towns are various shops, trading posts etc. Here you can buy and sell items (the meat and potatoes of the game), get news of which there is none and get exciting quests such as the aforementioned deliver a letter; or if you’re really lucky, a parcel!
