The gate closed in front of the three switches to Varrage Kasorg while I was fighting skeletons. Is this to be expected? The walkthrough didn't mention a gate.

I dont' think you have to use the sword to open this door/gate. The green jewel on the coffin does that. It seems like all of these swords will be used later though
