I killed the Black Troll by casting a Summon Skeleton scroll and ran circles around the Troll while the Skeleton whacked it to death.

I can't remember exactly how many rings there are but there are more than 11. The way I knew where each of them were was to go find the Orc Colonel. He has a map of where they all are.
