Gamespy has written the next very favorable review of Wizardry 8 today, rating the game 88%. Here's a bit from the review:

Hundreds of creatures make their homes on Dominus, where Wizardry 8's story takes place. Of these, most are hostile and depending on the party makeup, very powerful. Combat plays a large part in the game, oftentimes too much. You can choose to play with phased or continuous combat. Continuous combat is just phased combat in which you don't have to keep initiating the next round. It's useful only in combat against creatures that you overwhelm. Phased combat is similar to turn-based, but each character and creature's turn is decided by factors such as speed and weapon. Creatures may actually make their attacks in the middle of your characters' attacks. It works well, but it's very slow. After a couple of dozen combats, you'll find yourself trying to avoid many random encounters just to keep from going into combat mode.
