Personalia

My real name is Christian Hackl. I'm living in Austria, currently studying software engineering and knowledge managment at Graz, University of Technology. My daily life is currently so damn busy I hardly ever find time to update my Ultima website anymore. Analysis, data structures, C, SML, induction proofs... Apart from this, I'm very interested in HTML/CSS, Webdesign. Other interests include social philosophy (Karl Popper), listening to Jacques Brel songs, and watching soccer.
I was born on January 8th 1983.

Not married yet :) I want to have kids later in life; for me, having kids is even the meaning of life. Rest assured, though, it won't happen too soon.

Ultima

It all started when I was 13 or so and found the Ultima 5 C64 disks of my brother. Loaded the game and was instantly fascinated by it. So much freedom, so many possibilities, and you could talk to everyone, heck. What an imaginative game! I later discovered Ultima 6 on my brother's PC. This must be when I found out Ultima was actually a long series of games. Until I turned 18, I had already played all the good ones. The core of the series is without any doubt Ultima 4-7 + UW2. Ultima IX was probably the biggest disappointment in the history of gaming. Well, if you know my website, then I hardly have to elobarote on this topic.

Your Ultima

My favourite Ultima is The Black Gate because of its freedom on all
levels. You could talk to everyone about everything, you had all kinds of
different means of transportation, you could pick up and use everything, and go whereever you liked.
Shamino is my favourite Ultima character. He was such a quiet person.
Didn't talk much.

Memories

Now as far as my most  memorable Ultima episode is concerned... That was certainly one in Ultima 7. But which to choose? :) Oh, I know: When the
monk in Empath Abbey told you about Nastassia's father, her theme came up. That was a very nice touch.

Ultima Internet Community
In 2001. Just for the heck of it. There's no real use to membership in the UDIC, is there?

Yup. I originally founded Hacki's Ultima Page to make a fool of Ultima IX, and that's probably still its main purpose.

Ultima V: Lazarus. German translator.

Beyond Ultima

I don't play many computer games anymore. The whole industry has begun to suck. No new ideas, just 3D graphics. The same old story. Ultima 7 is still unmatched in terms of interactivity. And where's the Lemmings, Sim City, Turrican, and Monkey Island of today? I can't find it. I just play old games these days. Especially Warcraft 2 in Battle.Net.
